Rosalina POV:
"Take it all in. This is where you could be spending your next four years," The boring college rep kept droning on about how we need to choose our decisions wisely. This is the next step in our lives, and we don't want to be making a big mistake by choosing the wrong college. Blah, blah, blah, heard it all before.
I walked towards the small table that held punch and cookies I was beyond starving, and I am pretty sure everyone in the room heard my stomach growling. Hell, you could probably here it from 100 miles away.I grabbed a cup filled with watered-down punch and a small cookie. My mother and father seemed to be interested more in the books on the wall and the average ACT score of the place, than my personal interest of what place will help me grow. What place will help me achieve my goals. They talked to about 15 different reps and academic board members. All they ever did was brag about how I got a 32 on my ACT, and I how I had hoped to become doctor.
Sure, I was naturally smart. I aced every test I took, and studying had always been a priority in my life. Well, I actually really did not have a choice. Doing well in school in my family, is basically as important as breathing.
I have always been on the more conservative side and I never had much fun in partying. I had no desire to spend my days being wasted, when I would rather be studying for any possible pop quizzes that could come my way."Rosalina" my mother called as I came back to reality, "I have someone I would like for you to meet".
Ugh. Duty calls right?
I walked to find where my mother and father were, only to find they were standing with Dean Styles. "Hi, I'm Rosalina; it's a pleasure to meet you."
"As yourself, please the pleasure is mine," he replied with an intimidating yet promising smile. "I've heard plenty about you""Oh, I'm sure you have" the tone in my voice evident, a sassy remarked directed towards my mother, that she seemed to only rolled her eyes at.
"We would be pleased to have you attend here this fall. Our medical program is by far the best of any other college in the Northeast. We take pride in the programs we offer and the staff we have to help the students achieve their academic excellence."
I smiled an unwilling smile, as he kept talking to which I just kept ignoring. Until my eye caught a boy across the room.
Khaki pants and a nice sports coat looked like my type. Although, I never really have had a type. I haven't really dated anyone. Well, unless you count, actually let's not even go there.
"Excuse me for one second", I interrupted and walked across the room towards the boy.
"Hi, I'm Rosalina!"
"Rosalina, ah what a pretty name", I blushed and looked down. "I'm Kyle Matthews. Nice to meet you" He extended his hand which I gladly shook. "I'm going to be a sophomore this fall. Are you thinking about coming here this fall?"
"I'm still not sure yet," I replied hesitantly. I honestly was not sure. This place had always been my parents dream place for me to attend college. They loved it here. They wanted me to love it here. We had just moved from the West Coast. Honestly, mostly because of this place. My parents were just infatuated with it. But, as the college rep said earlier, I need to keep my options open. I do not want to make the wrong decision. "I'm thinking about studying something in medicine."
"No way, me too!" he retaliated back.
A stifle laugh came out of me. He was cute, no really cute, chestnut eyes and hair. About 5'11 or 6 foot I would say. A genuinely nice person and a medical student. What more could a girl ask for? I started to ask him another question when my ever so ruin-the-moment mother decided to call me once again."Rosalina. Honey the Dean was one more thing to say to you."
Fate was clearly not on my side today.
"Coming," I replied. "Hey Kyle, I uh hope to see you around!""Right back at ya, see ya later Rosalina!"
I walked towards my mother and father and the Dean once again. Annoyance evident on my face.
"Rosalina, I do have to go, but I do really want you to consider going to college year. I think a student like you could really flourish here. Applications were due a long time ago, but I know you and your family are new around here. So, I just want to let you know if you make your choice in the next week I would be more than happy to have our board review your application" Dean Styles spoke to me with sincerity.
Wow 7 days. Seven days to choose my whole future. I found it a little strange that he was letting my application in. I'm one of thousands students going here, there really was no need to have an exception just for me."I will consider it, thank you very much", I replied.
"Great! Well it seems like I have to go. Where is my son?"
I looked around expecting to see a well-dressed and well-mannered man in khaki pants and a sports coat much like Kyle standing next to his side. Someone who resembled much of his father. My mouth fell open as Dean Styles said,
"There you are son".A boy with numerous tattoos and curly hair almost to his shoulders stepped forward. Black jeans tighter than any guy should be wearing adorned his legs, and a Rolling Stones t-shirt clutched his what seemed to be toned stomach.
"Alright, well we should head out now," the Dean turned to my family. "It really was a pleasure to meet you all. I hope you consider coming here. Remember one week!"
He started to walk towards the door as his son slowly followed behind. I did not know his name and he looked like the last person on Earth I would associate with. He strolled towards me before landing his eyes on me. He leaned down to whisper in my ear,
"Nice outfit. Reminds me of my grandmother's doily curtains.Who helped you get dressed this morning? Mommy dearest?"With a scoff and a grimacing laugh, he exited the building with his father. My parents too focused on a brochure about campus life, to even notice how bright red my face had turned.
Thank god.
