I wake up, but don't open my eyes. I can feel something warm wrapping around me, urging me back to sleep. I want to, god it'd be so peaceful to just sleep, but I can hear my alarm going off, and that means work.
I slowly peel open my tired eyes and come to see I'm quite close to Chara, his eyes lidded, his breathing slow and steady. He's still asleep, good. His face is relaxed, oblivious to the bad he's endured.
Then I remember why I'm here.
I know nightmares are horrible, they should always be taken seriously. Dad had them constantly for a couple years after she died, he still has them occasionally, so I'm used to comforting people in that manner. I just hope they both know that they're strong enough to get through this.
I inhale deeply before sighing, then, to my displeasure, slowly make my way out of the warm sleepy embrace and stand up. I stretch as I walk and hear my back pop, as well as my arms. I slide out of Chara's room and quietly shut his door, running into my own room and slamming the off button on the alarm.
"Shut up you piece of noise." I say lowly, annoyed at the alarm. I was sleeping perfectly thank you, didn't need you to wake me up. I walk over to the closet, holding the doors of it open and tapping my thumb against the dark wood as I look over what I should wear to work. My mind's already made up though, and I pull out a black suit, chucking it over the bed. The dress code is formal, so extra formal I shall go. I decide not to wear a tie today, quickly slip into the smooth material of the long sleeved white polo shirt and black dress trousers. I like the slim suit, it's a little tight, but the small strain against my muscles allows me to focus more. I pop on a pair of white ankle socks and hang my suit jacket on my arm, exiting my room and going downstairs.
As I'm walking down the stairs, my eyes rest on Dad sat on the living room's navy blue couch, watching the news quietly. He smiles at me as I reach the bottom step.
"How come Chara isn't with you?" He asks as I set down my suit jacket on one of the dining room chairs.
"He had a nightmare last night, thank you, by the way." I explain then nod my head at the cup of coffee on the table, of which I take a sip. He nods.
"I assume you're going to cover for him today." He says and I nod back at him.
"You two can have some father-son bonding time." I suggest as I go into the kitchen, coffee mug in hand. I open the top cabinet and take out a travel mug, pouring the coffee into it and putting the cup in the sink.
"That's not a bad idea. We could bake something." He says after a few moments. As I screw on the lid I poke my head out of the kitchen and look at him with raised eyebrows.
"You sure about that? Didn't you almost burn down the house last time?" I point out with a slight smirk as I take another small sip of coffee. He puffs out his cheeks and looks away from me, pursing his lips.
"Noooooooo." He says, very unconvincingly. I just roll my eyes with a fat grin on my face.
"Uhuh, whatever you say." I slip on the same pair of flats I did yesterday and grab my tote bag, setting it on the table as I look through it to make sure I had everything. Didn't take my phone out, documents are at work, coffee's on the table... "I'm covering for you today as well, so do you have anything you need me to take in?" I ask him, averting to my eyes to him for a second then looking back through the bag.
"I don't think so, I left everything in my office, I think Fox has something for you to do about Joey though." He says as I take out random bits of scrap paper out of my bag and chuck them in the kitchen bin.
"Thanks, good to know. So, you didn't know about the monsters?" I ask, grabbing a ruby red apple from the kitchen fruit bowl and sitting next to him, taking a bite. He simply shakes his head.
"Not a thing, it's weird. You'd think working as Jones' secretary would let me know everything, but nope." He said, and I could hear the tone of annoyance in his voice.
"Itsh not yourwe *gulp* fault Dad. Jones is just, Jones I guess. You know him better than anyone, it might've just been confidential to the higher ups." I suggest, taking another bite. He just nods as his eyes go distant, looking at the tv but not taking it in. I sigh quietly, pitying him. Jones can't be easy to deal with.
