Generating The Flaw

Book 1 of the Series: Hamartia: Our Fatal Flaw

Hamartias

"Flaws. Something we despise yet something we love. Its amazing really, knowing that someone has a weakness you can use to your advantage but having to chose whether or not you want to. And in my case, I had to decide 23 times, and I regret every single one decision except for those who accepted mine."

Chapter 1: Introducing Alice

"We are flawed creatures, all of us. Some of us think that means we should fix our flaws. But get rid of my flaws and there would be no one left." -Sarah Vowell, Take the Cannoli

"

"There's always a chink in the armor"

Hamartia. A fatal flaw. Its an interesting word. A lot of people used to fight about what it meant back then. Their opinions were interesting to hear. They always argued over everything though. But then again that's the reason The Great War started. Although it was centuries ago, people still can't forget the damage done. Both physically and mentally. It was never the same, we didn't know what to do after it was over. That was until President Mal stepped up and gave the idea. Sometimes the system reminds me of communism, maybe that's what it is at times, I wouldn't know though.

The system is where they train us to be the epitome of perfection. They want intelligence, power, beauty. The perfect combination for the perfect society. Well perfect society in training. And like every other society there's rules.

Rule Number One) No Births.

Giving birth means eating for two, and we have to be less than 100 pounds. So if eating for two means gaining weight, then we won't allow it. It "will ruin our perfect society if you don't weigh the perfect amount." That and we all have jobs to go to which helps us make the "perfect" amount of money every quarter, so if pregnancy means missing work days, it's not allowed.

Rule Number Two) No Fattening Food

It's kind of like the first one except you'll be taken away if your 10 pounds above the requirement. Nobody knows what happens after that, all we know is that if this rule is broken, you'll never be seen again. Word says that they move you to another unit. But word also says that they kill you.

Rule Number Three) No imperfections.

This rule is the harshest, cruelest and most dangerous of all. If you are to break this rule you will never be seen again. Some people say the punishment, whatever it is, will always result in death. After all, we have to have the perfect amount of people for things to function perfectly.
