Tapping my fingers rapidly on the office desk, I watch as the clock on my wall ticks. This day couldn't go by any slower. I had already finished up all the paperwork for today and had a few more emails remaining that needed to be sent before my last meeting.I'm the CEO of a successful fashion company in New York. I've never really been into fashion, more of a side hobby, but it's a good cover up.
Due to unfit authority, corruption seeped its way into this country. Although it sounds cliche, due to a rise in criminal acts and cruel leaders, assassins have been hired as a sort of balancing act. With the rise of assassins came fear within society. Many argued that the use of these hired killers wasn't right and was inhumane. But in my opinion, the leaders were the inhumane ones. After many protests and meetings the governor created a law that stated "if any assassin is caught during attempted murder they are to be executed, but not without fair trial." Key word is 'if' and I never get caught.
I hear a couple knocks at the door, pulling me out of my thoughts. I buzz for them to come in. The lock is there for security and safety reasons. My secretary Cody walks in with a grim look on his face. I sigh and straighten my back as a sort of preperation. "Out with it."
"Well, good news and bad news." Cody chuckles anxiously. "Which do you prefer first," he offers and I notice him toying with the cuffs of his tuxedo as if he's nervous. Are we back in junior high? He could have just spared me the question and spat it out.
Closing my eyes, I bring my hand to my temple. As if my day could get worse. On my way to work this morning some bumbling idiot spilled coffee on my favorite blouse and I was forced to change into my rugged emergency outfit. Lord, mine as well get it over with.
"Bad news."
He sighs and clasps his hands on the clip board he was holding. "An article was published and had false news about an affair with you and the manager of the Alberson Company."
I wave of anger washes over me and I slam my hand down on the table. Stupid press with their false antics. How they came up with that story is beyond me. I don't even have enough time or effort for relationships and yet im somehow having an affair. What a joke. Cody's body tenses up and his eyes avoid mine. "Did you notify floor two?" I ask, attempting to keep my voice level although my anger was through the roof.
"Yes ma'am," he nods. "However, it was already too late before they could take it down-" he pauses before finishing, "its gone viral and Mr. Alberson wishes to hold a meeting tomorrow morning to discuss the issue."
We sit in silence for what seems like minuets as I try to process what he's telling me. Leo Alberson. The big bad boss of many influential companies worldwide. From what I've been told, he is known for being a cold, cruel man who plays with women. However I know better than to believe what the press says. 'Fortunately' I'll be seeing him tomorrow so I'll get to see for myself if their stories are true.
Exhaling, I run my hands through my almost black locks as a way to help calm some nerves. I could use a bit of good news right now. I motion for Cody to speak again.
"The good news is that your meeting at 5 has been canceled." He states.
I force out a laugh and sigh once again. "Lucky me. If you have nothing else to say you're dismissed." It's not good news if im still going to have the meeting at another time. I'll let him off the hook though so I can end this conversation faster.
He nods and exists the room in a hurry. My mind races as to what Leo could possibly want to offer at the meeting. I'm guessing he has a way to fix the press issue. Or maybe he wishes to blame me for it. Only time will tell.
