The Hogwarts Express slowed down as it approached the King's Cross station, finally coming to a halt jerkily. Those who had pets urged them to enter their cages and lifting their trunks made for the exit hurriedly.

James stepped out of the train feeling the cooling wind on his face, playing with his messy hair, making the back of his hair stand even more than it did usually. The warm June sun lit his face and poured over the buzzing station. The Gryffindor inhaled deeply, studying his surroundings.

Mothers were shedding tears of joy; siblings shooting endless questions at their elder sisters and brothers, thirsty for news from Hogwarts, and waiting impatiently for their turn to depart from the station nine and three quarters. Owls were screeching, and carts were being pushed toward the magical barrier as the train vapor filled the air.

"See you next year, mate," came the voice of Frank Longbottom as he patted him on the shoulder.

He soon joined a tall, stern witch with a pointed hat decorated with a stuffed vulture and a dignified man with bushy eyebrows who wore a heart-warming smile at the sight of his son.

"They're a beautiful family, aren't they?" James was startled by Lily, who appeared at his side.

"The Longbottoms? Yeah, they're great."

A broad smile broke on James's thin face as his eyes stopped searching the crowd.

"What?" Lily asked incredulously.

"Mum!" he shouted, raising his hand high in the air. "C'mon Evans, let's meet my mum and dad."

He took the trunk from her hand before she could object and strided toward an elderly couple halfway across the station.

"Oh, James, darling! There you are! Your father and I have been looking for you everywhere!"

A dainty, middle-aged woman with black hair peppered with grey strands extended her arms wide as he knelt down to meet her hug, planting a kiss on her cheek.

Standing beside her was a well-dressed, tall man with a jet black mustache and an expensive watch hanging from his pocket. His father patted James's shoulder affectionately, eyeing him up and down as though unable to get enough.

"James, you've lost weight," his mother fussed.

"Oh," she uttered with a small but polite voice, patting James' arm, "and who is this lovely lady?"

"Mum, this is Lily. Lily Evans."

"Lily Evans. Why, your name does sound familiar, darling."

James looked away, flushing slightly.

"Indeed," her mother smiled finally, "isn't that the girl James always talks about?"

Lily threw a questioning look at James, who was suddenly extremely interested in his shoelaces. She couldn't help but smile at the thought of James talking about her to his parents.

"Oh look, and there's our Marlene!" said Mrs. Potter, looking behind Lily and James. James turned instantly in his relief and ran to help Marlene with her baggage.

"Truth be told, I think he has a little crush on you," Mrs. Potter whispered in Lily's ear with a warm smile.

"Who is that gentleman walking next to Marlene, Fleamont?" she asked, turning to her husband.

"Looks awfully like Sirius, Euphemia."

"Oh, but that is our Sirius! They grow up so fast I cannot recognize them sometimes!" she chuckled at her own inattentiveness.

Sirius raised his arm in the air greeting the two with a smile stretched from ear to ear. As he reached them, Euphemia tied her arms around him.

"Come here, son," Fleamont said, hugging Sirius tightly, "I missed you rascals! Marley, we've missed you! Come here, give the old man a hug."

"We expect you to come to visit us during the summer," Euphemia said.

"Um-I'd love to, but I really don't know if-"

"No," Euphemia insisted, shaking her head from side to side. "I don't even wish to hear an excuse. We haven't had you over for too long."

"You too, darling," she continued turning to the redhead. "It would be delightful to have you over. I always enjoy spending time with James's friends."

Remus and Peter joined them, the former carrying his own trunk and helping Peter drag his.

"Remus! Peter!" Euphemia exclaimed. "You look great," she said, turning her motherly gaze at Peter. At her words Peter's chubby face matched the Gryffindor sweater he wore.

"I am so glad you are all safe and healthy. With you two, one never knows what could happen next," she said, throwing a stern glance at Sirius and James. "It puzzles me how you ever became friends with these two," she said to Remus.

"I ask myself the same question every day, ma'am," Remus replied.

Everyone chuckled.

"Mum, it's not like we go looking for trouble!" James retorted.

"Trouble just always finds its way to us," continued Sirius.

"And why does everyone always think he's innocent?" James bellowed, indicating Remus, "he's fucking diabolical!"

To which James got an approving glance from his mother and hysterical fits of laughter from Peter who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself.

"Mrs. Potter," Sirius said tentatively, barely suppressing his eagerness, "did you bring her?"

She looked at Sirius blankly for several seconds before breaking into a smile of comprehension.

"Oh, of course, Sirius."

She jerked her head backward.

"Oh, there you are! I've missed you, baby! Promise to never leave me again?!" Sirius's voice carried in an audible whisper.

"Are you seriously kissing a motorbike right now?" asked Peter as the company watched the emotional reunion.

James didn't seem surprised, apparently used to Sirius's sensitivity when it came to his beloved motorbike. The rest goggled at him, bemusedly.

"We ought to get going," Mrs. Potter said after some time.

"It's a pleasure to meet you all. And you are welcome to visit us during the summer. We can play a round of Quidditch", Mr. Potter said, winking at Remus and Peter. "I may not be as young, but I've still got a trick or two up my sleeve, you know."

Euphemia shook her head, but her smile sold her out.

"Or we could duel," Mr. Potter added.

"Flemont, we've been over this! They are still children! And some of them haven't even come of age yet!"

"We're not children," pumped up Peter.

"Okay, Okay. I know the rules. No dueling," Mr. Potter sighed. "That doesn't mean we can't still have fun," he assured the teens.

"Take care of yourselves," Euphemia said, "Sirius, dear, could you help me with that trunk, please."

Sirius took it eagerly, the smile still plastered on his face. Before leaving, he turned to look at Marlene for one last time, his jaw tightening.

"Is there anything I need to know about you and Marly, Sirius?" Lily heard Mrs. Potter ask as they walked away.
