"Good morning everyone, this is Lilith Abigail bringing to you live news on the world. Today, October 19, marks the first year of the ongoing revolution between the US citizens and it's government system. So far, many people have lost their lives to this revolt, both those active in the revolt and those who are caught in the crossfire. As of today, no reports on whether the resistance and the government will begin to negotiate a plan to end this revolution quicker..." As the TV continues to play in the background, I get up while letting out a big sigh accompanied with a long moment of stretching.
"Welp, don't know what I was expecting from the news, it's been the same thing over and over again for the past year. I'm still shocked that it's been a year since everything began." As I start walking to the kitchen, getting ready to prepare breakfast for my brother's, the news begins to speak about the magic surge happening around the world.
"In other news, still no information on where this magic is coming from and how it chooses those to use it. The streets have been growing with battles between the magic user as the revolution continues on, and currently shows no sign of stopping. Each side possessing their own magic users and each possessing either a separate ability or multiple."
Just as soon as my interest begins to peak, my siblings begin to walk out of their rooms ready to eat breakfast
"Buenos días hermanito, is breakfast ready?" Tony asks tiredly. "No, I haven't even started. Go get ready you lazy bones, breakfast will be ready by then." As they walk off, my little brother walks towards me and hugs me.
"Oyes, what's with the sudden hug little bro?"
"Just wanted to show you that even after everything that has happened, we are here whenever you need us. Also I know that you're still having nightmares from that day..." He hugs me for awhile before I hug him back, while also hiding the pain.
"It's ok hermanito, I know I have you guys. Honestly, if it wasn't for you two, who knows what I would have done by now. Now go get ready, if you don't hurry then you won't get breakfast." I look down to give him a big smile, knowing well that half of it was fake. He gives me a smile back and hurries back into the room to get dressed and ready for the day. "Even though it's been a full year already, I still can't help but blame myself." I stood in front of the stove for a good minute before letting out a huge sigh and remembering that I can't let my brother's worry. We all have our own fair share of demons to deal with and even if we say that we have each other, we all know that we don't wanna burden one other with it, so I must be strong for them. 30 minutes pass and I have breakfast ready, along with all our lunches for the day.
"Hey Abe?" My brother Tony is at the door way of the kitchen with a worried look.
"Your sure you don't want me to drop you off at school today?"
"I'm sure big bro. Plus, I need to practice for cross country, you know how my coach gets when I start to get slow."
"I know I know, but I just wanted to make sure, you know. All of us have chosen to stay quiet about our emotions and out of all of us, you've always done that. Alex is getting ready still, so if you wanna talk then we can..." And just like that, as if magic words to release all the guilt inside me, I begin to tear up. "I know I shouldn't still be feeling like this hermano but, I still miss them. It's been more than a year since they died and yet, I feel the hurt and guilt for everything that happened..." My brother hugs me, causing me to shed even more tears
"You know well enough that what happened to them wasn't your fault. Even if we weren't able to do much for them, they loved us and even though they're gone, they would want us to continue living and protecting one another, no matter what. Mom and dad are looking over us in heaven, and no matter what happens, they'll be up there praying for our safety." Without noticing, our little brother comes out and joins our hug. For the first time in a very long time, I felt safe and relieved with myself and the shit happening around me. I start wiping my tears while telling them, "Alright, enough with the crying for today, let's eat and start heading out. You ,big bro, gotta get to work early today and same goes for Alex. Your teacher told me that you arrived late yesterday, even worse was the fact that you had a hamburger in your hand while still casually walking towards the office." I gave him an angry look while struggling to pull my shoe off. "Wait wait wait, don't you dare throw your shoe at me. I swear it was only yesterday, I've been arriving to school early." He pleads for mercy but before either of us could do anything, Tony yells at us to hurry and eat before it gets late. After a nice and peaceful breakfast as a family, I grab my backpack from the room and start heading off to school. "Oyes hermanito!" I hear my older brother scream at me from the kitchen, "Make sure to call me when you get out of school, you know how worried we get when you arrive late so please give me a call." I respond to him with a real smile, "I will." I run down the stairs, putting my headphones on at the front gate and preparing myself for a really long run. Luckily for me, my school isn't to far from where I live so I'll make it on time for practice.
