Chapter Two

Will eased back on the accelerator as we drove away from Sausalito along Bridgeway towards 101 and on to Marin City. Will wound up the car a little but soon we were turning off on to Tiburon Boulevard and driving along Richardson Bay to Belvedere Cove.

The views of the Golden Gate Bridge, of Sausalito and the whole area were stunning. My senses were reeling from the combination of the ultra-fresh clean smell of sea breezes and the brilliant sunlight playing on the water.

My biggest shock, however, was seeing Will’s house. It was up a long winding drive on top of a cliff in the exclusive enclave of Belvedere. As soon as I saw it I had my cell out and was ringing Tony, our photographer.

“Will, this place looks amazing. What’s the zip code so I can get Tony out here quickly. He’s our photographer,” I added.

Will laughed. “I’m not sure. I’ve just bought the place. Tell him to ring my realtor. I’ll get you the number when we get inside.”

Will drove the Lamborghini into his garage and made sure the door locked behind us. We entered his lounge and he took me straight out on to the upper terrace overlooking the bay. The first thing you saw was a panoramic view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay.

A man dressed very formally suddenly appeared at Will’s elbow. “Can I get you and your lady friend a drink, sir?”

“Ah, Siggy, meet Miss Grenville, Miss Rebecca Grenville.”

Siggy bowed stiffly. “I am very pleased to meet you, Miss Grenville.” He turned to Will. “Drinks, sir?”

“Just a soda for me, Siggy, please. Miss Grenville … err … Rebecca would you like some wine?”

Wine? Is he trying to get me drunk? It’s not even midday!

“No, thanks, a soda will be fine.”

“Oh, Siggy, can you ask Archie to prepare us a light lunch? He’ll know what to do.”

 “Certainly, sir.”

“Archie is my cook,” Will explained.

I nod still stunned by the view. Then I remember Tony. “Will, have you got that number?”

 “Sure.”

He walked back into the house. I shivered as I watched the way he moved. God, he was such a handsome man. When I said earlier I had known some men it was strictly in the non-Biblical sense. No man had ever had this effect on me. What was the matter with me?

Will picked up a brochure and handed it to me. I gasped when I saw the photograph and the price. It was a photograph of this house and they had been asking forty five million!

I rang Tony’s number. “Tony, can you get across here as soon as you can. I’m at Will King’s house in Belvedere. Yes, Will King, the software billionaire. He hasn’t got the zip handy but if you ring the realtor you’ll get it from them.” I gave Tony the number and rang off.

Will gave me a brief tour of his palatial home. He showed me into six of the seven bedrooms. I assumed the odd one out was one he kept as his own private room. The house obviously had a pool but also a gym, an art gallery, a wine cellar and a home theatre, plus nine bathrooms.

We scarcely had time to look at everything before Archie appeared with shrimp tostadas. He set a table out on the terrace and tried to persuade me to have a glass of chilled white wine.

“Miss Rebecca, it is the best. Please try.”

“No, Archie, sorry but I am working and I do have to drive back to the office after Mr King has taken me back to his HQ.”
