Izuku Midoriya watched as the golden sun sank into the darkening waves, his hand reaching for the orange tinted clouds that clung to the fading light. Midoriya smiled as a wind coated softly with salt blew against his nostrils, his thoughts moving to not even two years ago. That was when he didn't have a quirk, when All Might was training him for One For All. Midoriya couldn't believe how much he had grown since he first arrived her. Back then, his dreams seemed so far out of reach, but now he doing a Work Studies with the number one pro hero's, Endeavor's, agency. Then, Midoriya only had Kacchan to call a friend, but now he had an entire class plus some that cared about him.
With a shudder, Midoriya realized he should call his friends. They were probably worrying about him as he had been leaning against the railing, sitting in the sand for a few hours at that point. His patrol ended hours ago, and while they probably assumed he got distracted, Midoriya knew they could only believe that for so long before they began to worry. Midoriya pulled his phone out of his hero costume's pocket, unlocking his phone while leaving some marks of a red paint. That must have came from the villain battle he was in earlier. Midoriya sighed, determined to clean that up later. Midoriya stared at the background of his phone with a smile. It was almost a year ago when all the kids switched hero costumes for the day at random. Midoriya was upfront wearing Kacchan's costume, with Uraraka in Kamanari's costume and Iida in Yaoyorozu's. A little behind them, Asui stared up at the camera in Sero's costume while Todoroki looked monotone in Kirishima's. In the background, all his classmates were interacting with each other in opposing costumes. Even Aizawa, Nemuri, Yamada, and Yagi switched costumes, and that made everyone in the class crack up, even Todoroki and Bakugo.
Midoriya blinked at the memory, pressing a green app with a white telephone icon. Looking across his contacts, Midoriya settled with talking to Uraraka. She would probably be the most worried, after all, besides probably Aizawa. Midoriya pressed the phone to his ear, staring at the rising moon as the stars twinkled brightly. Midoriya hummed as the phone buzzed, until that cut off, Uraraka's voice filling his ear, her tone upbeat and chirpy. "Hey, Deku-kun! The movies about to start, where are you?"
"Hey, Uraraka-chan," Midoriya spoke softly, his voice hushed as he shivered. With the fading sun, the warmth it provided also disappeared, leaving Midoriya cold on the beach. He rubbed his arm, wishing that Todoroki was there to use his the fire side of his quirk. Midoriya shook his head, wondering what Todoroki would think of him now. Midoriya could imagine Todoroki's slight frown as his eyebrows would knit together, leaning down to look Midoriya in the eye. Midoriya almost chuckled at how vivid that image became. As he thought about it, Midoriya could envision all his friends and classmates, how they would react to him now.
"What's wrong, Deku-kun? You sound so out of it," Uraraka replied, her voice quieting as she expressed concern. She stopped doing whatever she was doing before, the noises around her stopping as she waited for a reply. Midoriya wondered where she was. Was she in the kitchen making snacks? Was she helping set up the equipment for the movie? Was she walking with Asui to the living room? Midoriya wasn't sure since they were all possibilities.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just a little tired. I'm gonna go to sleep early," Midoriya nodded his head even though he knew that she couldn't see him. Midoriya hummed again, resting his arm against his stomach as he leaned his head back onto the metal railing. Midoriya saw the stars glowing above the thin, gray clouds that blanketed the sky. Midoriya smiled as his eyes slid shut, a yawn coming out of his lips. Midoriya shook his head, whispering to his friend since his voice was slowly giving out. "You guys she watch the movie without me. Just because I'm falling asleep doesn't mean you can't have fun. Promise me you'll still have fun."
"Yeah, Deku-kun, I promise you. I'm sure all our classmates will agree. You're missing a good movie, though," Uraraka gave a quiet laugh, Midoriya smiling at that. She was always sweet, and that reflected in her giggling. It was soft this time around, and she sighed right afterwards. Midoriya frowned at that. He didn't like that sigh. She sounded worried and stressed, but this was a kind of sigh one let out when one couldn't do anything. Midoriya didn't want to make her feel that way, but the greenette couldn't actually affect his classmates. "... Izuku?"
"Yes, Ochaco?" Midoriya replied with a huge, stupid grin spreading across his face. This wasn't the first time they called each other by their first names with no honorifics, but Midoriya loved every time they did. It made them seem closer, like they were the best of friends. They were, Midoriya reflected, it was just always surprising to him when he thought about that. Midoriya loved all his friends. He didn't have many in elementary, and they all grew to despise him in junior high. Everyone at UA loved him for who he was. Midoriya wanted to stay with them forever, but he knew that was a pipe dream. They had graduation very soon, after all. They were all about to become heroes. Midoriya reflected that a lot of them had already saved lives like heroes, taking into account the war and Work Studies.
"We all love you. Everyone gets tired sometimes, and we don't want to keep you up when you want to sleep. Just... Stay on the line with me, okay?" Uraraka whispered, her voice tight. Midoriya wondered if she had tears in her eyes. She wasn't sobbing or whimpering, but her tone seemed upset. Midoriya didn't want Uraraka to cry, but he was too tired to stay awake and comfort her. Midoriya was really tired, and he figured that she was with people who could effectively comfort her when he couldn't.
"I love you, too. Goodnight, Ochaco," Midoriya told her before pressing the speaker button on his phone, setting the metal in his lap. Midoriya closed his eyes, his limbs feeling heavy. His breathing started slowing, and he couldn't feel the cold anymore. He could hear Uraraka humming through the line, the sound wavering at times. Midoriya wondered who was listening to them right now. It wasn't like Midoriya was specifically talking to Uraraka, even though he singled out her name. Midoriya was saying goodnight to everyone. He always did that since the war that happened at the end of their first year. Midoriya went to everyone's room, even Kacchan's, to tell them goodnight. It was a habit for him, and he couldn't sleep without doing that. Midoriya had tried sleeping without doing that, after some childish fights with his friends, but that didn't exactly work out for anyone when he didn't.
"Sweet dreams, Deku-kun," Uraraka whispered, and Midoriya was about to tell her the same when he fell asleep. His body collapsed to the side, his limbs unclenching as he exhaled slowly. A puddle of red paint started to form around him, but Midoriya wasn't conscious to realize it wasn't paint, but instead blood, his or the villains, he wasn't quite sure. Uraraka heard the noise and started repeating his name. When Midoriya didn't answer, she started sobbing into her palm.
"Ura-chan! What's wrong? Did something happen?!" Ashido asked, stepping up to her friend. Asui turned to give her friend a side hug. Iida grabs her flipphone, looking at the contact with a confused expression. Iida placed it against his ear, asking for Midoriya, but Iida didn't hear anything. The entire class started to gather around Uraraka who wiped her eyes, clearing her throat. She sighed very softly, her breath coming out in a slow wave. "Midoriya-kun says goodnight.... I think he's dead."
