Carol's POV
I heard Eve wailing to Owen about something. God I wish Kathryn was mine and not Eve. Kathryn was always so good compared to her. I started treating Kathryn better than Eve then it sort of grew to treating her better than everyone. My darling husband didn't notice and just went along with it. Eve deserves everything she got with that Greg boy. Neither her or Kathryn know I was the one who heard the conversation between the two of them. I wouldn't have known Carly was Greg's girlfriend had I not just spent the last half hour listening to her gush about how romantic he was. And then she started telling me about their sex life. I didn't want to know about their sex life but I was sure that she would like to her that her darling Greg kissed one of her 'friends'. I knew Carly hated Eve but loved Kathryn. Just like me. So I told her. I knew Eve didn't know who his girlfriend was so I got her to remain friends with her just so she could tell me all her secrets. At first she was relucant to spend so much time with someone she hated but once she realised I would pay her, well then she happily agreed, I know I sound like a horrible mother, and really I am but I just wanted to know about her. I wanted to know the things she only told people she trusted. Even though the person she trusted was being paid to be her friend. "Carol honey I know you like your thoughts and everything but we really need settle this argument" Craig said to me, "What is there to say? You think she knows that her parents were murdered and I don't, I mean how could she know, who would have told her?" I told him. God her really was silly sometimes. "That new boy next door" he said "She was seen with him a few times and I recognise his face. And the uniforms those doctors and nurse wear look awfully like those at that mental hospital down the road from my work" he exclaimed. I looked at him shocked. "Our daughter has been hanging round with a kid recently discharged from a mental hospital?!?!" I almost shout. He gave me that look that said'she isn'y our daughter and you know it'. Owen then came bursting in exclaiming how the boy next door was shouting Kathryn like they were having sex. He looked hurt but I brushed it off and ran down the stairs and out the house and banged on his door. "Hang on, hang on I'm coming" a familiar voice shouted. When the fully clothed boy, who looked like he had been having a shower, opened the door I gasped in shock. He looked like Brian. He looked at me expectantly and then I realised I needed to ask him something. "Have you seen Kathryn recently I heard you were friends and I just wondered if you knew where she has gone?" I asked as steadily as I could. He looked at me then said three simple words "She's fucking Owen" then slammed the door in my face. I was confused then I went to walk back to the house and seen Owen looking bright red. It was then I realised what that boy said was true. My son and my fake daughter were screwing each other. I gave him a disgusted look then walked back into my house to find Craig.
Later that evening
"Craig how can he look like Brian, he died almost 18 years ago with no children?" I asked. "I mean that boy can only be 17 at the most and that would mean there was no way he could be Brian's even if he did have children no one knew about" I continued. Craig sighed then said "I don't know Carol, Brian kept his business, his business and didn't involve anyone else unless he had to. And if I remember he went missing 18 years ago and was found dead 16 years ago so maybe he was alive then and had children". I mean I guess he was right but it didn't make sense. Brian was mine, Craig, Kyle and Lindsey's friend around 25 years ago. We were all really close until Kyle and Lindsey died. It upset all of us but Brian was completely broken. He didn't leave the house for days, his girlfriend left him and then he just disappeared.
Flashback
"Craig I refuse to believe it. The Cole's had done nothing wrong why on earth why THEY kill them. I mean they were basically model citizens and Kathryn was growing up to be a strong little girl" I sobbed to my husband Craig. "I don't know honey, I really don't but we need to tell Brian" he replied. "Tell me what? and why are you crying Carol?" he asked not knowing what had happened. "Kyle and Lindsey they....." Craig started before having to compose himself. Brian looked confused. "They were murdered this evening. On the way to the restaurant to celebrate their anniversary" Craig continued. "It was one of THOSE murders though. The ones everyone hears about but refuses to acknowledge" he finished. By this point both Brian and I were sobbing.
End of Flashback
When I went round two weeks later he was gone with no note saying why he had left or where he was going. Me and Craig fund it hard to cope losing three close friends and on top of that three babies, one of which was a constant reminder of two friends you had only just lost. It was awful but we made it. I know I should have been kinder to Eve and Owen but I didn't see why it had to be Kathryn's parents who died. They were perfect like Kathryn. Craig, Brian and I however were not. We partied for too late and we were always doing things we shouldn't have. Just like that one thing I did before Craig, Brian and Kyle. I told Lindsey after I don it and she helped me. I also told Craig because I wanted to marry him. Lindsey promised she never told Kyle and we all promised not to tell Brian.
Why does the boy next door look like Brian?
And why is he getting checks from people who work in a mental hospital?
