"No..." I mutter to myself. My eyes brim with tears and my chest closes off. "Oh god, please no!"

I race to the pile, my feet sinking in the sand.

The groans of pain are like bullets hitting my skin, sending goosebumps all over me.

"Please," I cry. "Please don't leave me, not after I just found you."

A hand reaches up to my face, blood transferring from their fingers to my cheek. "I love you,"

Their hand goes still.

My world goes numb.

I slowly stand, my head still aimed at the ground.

My feet beg me to run and I want to resist.

But I decide at that moment what's right.

There is no holding me back anymore.
