the next morning came by slowly, warm and yellow streaming through the blinds just to pool on soft, tanned skin. a disgruntled noise came muffled from the bed as Brea's feet pressed to the cold wooden floor. she looked at her roughed up hair and glazed over eyes in the mirror, looking behind her Kim rolled over, still peacefully asleep. Brea smiled softly at Kim as she rested, creeping out of the room.

Kim's eyes cracked open with tired blur. she felt oddly empty as she remembered where she was. where's Brea? her hands swiped the abandoned covers. as her vision simmered clear she heard running water in another room. sitting up she looked into the mirror in front of her. she definitely looked thoroughly fucked out she thought, hopefully Bre's parents heard. Kim's eyes widened, fuck! she just up and left last night. probably not the best way to follow up a half assed apology.

the bedroom door creaked open as brea, hair still wet and stringy. when their eyes met she smiled. grabbing the brush from the dresser she stood in the mirror, not really paying attention to anything that wasn't Kim.

"sleep well?" Brea offered, it took Harriet tubmen amounts of strength to not smirk.

"As well as your snoring would let me" Kim joked, running her hands through her messy hair.

Kim stood up, picking up her drenched clothes from the floor.

"Just leave them here," Brea spoke. "I'll just make sure you take them home next time."

Kim laughed at the comment, pulling on her shoes and one of Brea's hoodies.

"Next time?" Kim playfully smiled.

as Brea drove slowly down the street Kim pressed her head against the window. with her feet on the dash and a warm coffee cup in her hands she felt the warm blanket of sleep wrap around her. as light flickered though the windshield and softly onto her eyelids she heard the light humming of Brea's morning voice. hoarse and low.

snuggled in Brea's sweater while she quietly sang, Kim decided she was born only to experience this,  the blissful company of a lover.

lover?  just go with it.

"i could get used to this" Kim breathed out, eyes still lulled closed

"post-fingering aftercare?"

she couldn't help the full belly laugh that came out. she looked at Brea with tear blurred vision as she laughed.

Brea liked her laugh. it was the first time she heard it organically.

Kim stepped out of the car, giving Brea a soldier's salute before shutting her front door. as she kicked off her still damp shoes, she heard the sound of frantic wrapping against the door.  opening it, Brea stood before her.

"i was just leaving but i realized i never got your number" Brea dug her hand in her back pocket as she spoke.

this confused Kim, did she really not have her number? she had sworn she'd taken it down at one point. Kim forgot she had a phone when she was around her. just her and Brea, the way it was always meant to be.

Brea happily took the number, calling it just to make sure it was right.

"thanks, babes" Brea cooed, swooping in to peck the corner of Kim's mouth messily.

Kim stood there, a little stunned by the sudden sign of affection. she watched Brea get in the car a drive away before closing the door.

the house was pleasantly quiet that day. as the sun made its final dip under. Kim laid warm and alone in bed. drifting off she found her self in Brea's car. she could see the thin lines of steam blow in front of her as brutal cold resided deep in her bones. as Kim shivered she turned to the drivers seat to see Brea, already staring at her. neck body stiff and eyes impossibly wide.

"Brea?..." Kim's voice sounded so timid.

heavy silence filled the car. there was some sort of emotion in Brea's eyes that Kim had never seen before. as seconds built up an eerie tension filled the car, and for the first time Kim was scared of brea.

looking away from her, Kim looked out in front of them to see they were parked on the side of a highway. the light shadows of trees curved around the car as a bright sunrise began.

Kim looked on at the swell of the sun before turning back to Brea.

"the sunrise is pretty" Kim's voice was soft. "it always is"

Brea, still wide eyed and silent burst at this. hunching over the steering wheel, choking out agonizing sobs. letting her head hang she caught her breath. Brea sat up, gripping the wheel with white knuckles.

"it is, thank you" her voice was coarse with sorrow.

as Brea collected herself, Kim cracked the car door open, quietly stepping out and closing it. the air was cold on her skin but she didn't mind it. looking through the window Kim saw Brea stare in her direction. she gave her a weak smile as Brea merely looked beside her before driving away.

Kim bolted up, sweat trickling down her forehead. her labored breaths and tight chest sending her into a blur of fear and confusion. reaching a clammy hand out to her nightstand she grabbed her phone, dialing Brea's number.

"hello?" a mumbled voice spoke out.

"oh god, brea i just had a dream that you were looking at me like i was crazy and then you left me on the side of the road and it was so scar-" Kim rambled out, running a hand through her sweaty hair.

"wait, slow down. you're gonna be fine just talk to me" Brea reassured, voice becoming clear and firm.

Kim took a breath and laid back down, curling up around her phone

"ok, i had a really weird dream it really freaked me out. it was like some Silence Of The Lambs shit!" Kim blurted out.

Kim heard Brea's raspy laugh and let herself sink into the mattress. they talked about the dream for a bit, letting other loosely fitting topics take lead before Kim felt the hazy warmth of sleep while Brea quietly rambled.

together or apart, she was safe.
