The week was bland until Friday arrived. Friday, the students were rowdier than ever. My last class of the day was the time when everyone ached to go home.

“Mr. Rey, let’s not work,” Jordan Jackson, Alex Daniels’s buddy, whined. He flashed his hazel puppy eyes at him.

“You guys just had a long winter break. You are AP students, get it together,” Mr. Rey passed out the homework assignment.

“It’s senior year, Mr. Rey,” Alex stretched. “We’re going to graduate less than 6 months.”

I looked over to Alyssa who was already starting on today’s homework assignment. I sighed and looked out the classroom window. It was raining outside and all I felt like doing was sleeping.

“You guys are lucky that this is a flipped class. Do what you like, just make sure you watch tonight’s video before Monday,” our teacher compromised.

While everyone cheered, I turned to Alyssa and lazily begun doing my homework. She noticed me writing my name and starting the 1st question.

“Hm,” Alyssa tapped her pencil. “You know all of this so you can help me.” She came to me with a question about differential equations. “I ask myself all the times  why I took this class.”

I showed her step by step the ways to solve most of the math problems and we finished the worksheet and thirty minutes to spare.

"Violet Bradley,” Alex extended my last name with “eee”. “You done with the homework?”

Alyssa shot me with classic look and I shrugged my shoulders. I looked at Daniels and gave him a small nod, knowing that Jessica was giving me the side eye. Alex approached to our desk along with Jordan.

They quickly looked at my work and then scrunched their eyebrows. Alex smirked and puffed his chest, “V, you cute little nerd.”

mmediately I blushed and Alyssa straightened as her eyes enlarged. In my peripheral view, I saw Jessica look up from her phone and lean toward us. All I tried to do was come up with the most clever line to make everyone laugh to forget that he just called me a...

        “V, you cute little nerd.”

But during my quick replay, Alex instantly started to copy off the first problem. “I owe you,” he said as he quickly copied with Jordan looking out for Mr. Rey. I exchanged looks with Alyssa and noticed Jessica becoming disinterested. When they were done, Alex looked up and smiled, “Thanks, V,” Jordan thanked me as well.

“This better not be a permanent thing.” I tell the both of them as they got up to leave. They chuckled and returned to their seats.

“What the hell was that?” Alyssa whispered. “Did he say what I think he said?”

“He called me a cute little nerd.”

“That man,” she said “is a lady killer.”

“Alyssa, that was a compliment was backhanded. Cute and little nerd cancel each other out.” The bell rang and Alyssa absorbed my logic as she left. When I turned to go to the ladies restroom, someone stopped me.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“Excuse me?” I said.

Jessica Brown flipped her glossy hair and made me want to push her. She stood in her Miss Me jeans and her babydoll top that look like it came straight from an Abercrombie & Fitch store. What was so irritating was that at first glance, she looked like what Taylor Swift would call “a nightmare dressed like a daydream”.

“I’m going to let you off because you are new here.” she warned. “But you should know that Alex is mine.”

I tilted my head, “Are you guys dating?”

“No,” she quickly remarked.

“Then he’s not yours,” I said surprisingly. “No matter who he’s dating, no one can ever call him their’s.”

“Whatever, Bradley. You’re just a little nerd to him.” she mocked and walked away.

         Okay, that was weird.

I started to feel hungry on my way home so I decided to stop by In N Out. “I should go inside,” I tell myself and parked my car. The drive through line was just too long for this hungry soul.

When I entered, I could smell the beauty of it all. I longed for a double-double and sat down with my tray five minutes later with a smile on my face. “I’m going to be so happy.” I took my first bite.

        "Jackson!”

        “Daniels!”

Oh no, not again. Not here.

I quickly turned my back on them after spotting them both in line. Do they usually meet up like this and announce it to the whole world. I quickly shipped them in my head and sipped my soda.

I was only half way done when they sat down at a table across from me. Luckily, there was a divider and they had no idea that I was there. They waited for their food as they drank their soda. I was able to hear most of their conversation.

“Jessica’s face was hilarious! Did you see her?” I could hear Jordan laugh.

“Yeah...She needs to move on,”

“What? You want her to move on? But man, she’s so hot. I don’t understand why you guys broke up in the first place.”

“Jackson, you have no idea how fucked up she can be.”

“So now what? You have a thing for Violet?”

“Bradley? Nah, she’s too cute for me.”

No, I’m too good for you, you punk.

I studied the burger. Aw man, I only have a bite left. I finished it and started to clean up after myself and continue eating my fries.

“She is a smart girl though, but I find it suspicious that she transferred this late,” I hear Jordan hypothesized. “What if she came to this school because she got kicked out for sleeping with a teacher?”

“Man, you need to stop watching that CSI shit,” Alex laughed. “Our food is ready, I’ll go get it.” He departed and headed toward the front counter.

I figured out if that if I leave now, they wouldn’t notice me. So hold my wallet in one hand and the tray in the other. I dispose my stuff, but I realized that I needed a refill.

I slowly creep up to the soda dispenser and refill my drink. I look over and see that Alex returned to his booth with one tray of three-by-threes and another tray of fries. I couldn’t help myself so I snickered and left.

        They didn’t see me.
