Well, I was very very excited watching Sweety after waiting for 2 years. I was also one of the lucky fan who got an invite to the pre-release/fan meet arranged by the team 😊. Will write my experience about the meet later.

I saw the movie as soon as it got released. Made sure I complete all my work before the start of the movie.

Honestly, the movie didn't meet my expectations. It's just one time watch.

Positive about the movie:

The starcast of the movie is a big plus point of the movie. Sweety and Maddy have a very good chemistry. Each and everyone performed well. I would like to say even the actors from US were also good. I felt Michael Madsen was ok ok. Cinematography is superb. Locations are shot beautifully. Music is refreshing.Loved all songs. I am continuously listening to the songs from the day it's released.

Negative:

The film actually starts of well but fell flat in the second half. A very sloppy screenplay in the second half made it a bit boring. A very bad character development from the director. I did not like the narration from Anjali. Felt should have used someone else for narrating the story.
It becomes predictable after a point. The director should have spent some more time in improving the characters and screenplay. Had a very good content but failed in execution. What a wasted opportunity.

Now let me talk about individual performance.

Anushka Shetty/ Sweety:

She proves yet again that she is a powerful actress. She totally convinced me as a person who is deaf and mute. She looked beautiful in each frame. Couldn't take my eyes of her. Thanks to Neeraja Kona and Nikki. She expressed her emotions through her eyes and I feel she emoted much better than other characters in the movie even without uttering a word. Anjali had said "No one could play Sakshi better than Sweety" and she was right. Unfortunately Sweety's potential was underutilized. That's what I felt.

Madhavan:

Madhavan was also good as a cello player. No comments on his acting. He was superb. He and Sweety had a very sweet chemistry. Director should have explored his character more and should have used the chemistry of the leads.. They should have shown more of him. His character should have been highlighted more to justify his actions.

Shalini

Shalini played the role of Sonali who is a very bubbly and possessive friend of Sakshi. She performed well in her part but again it's the character development of Sonali. Atleast in the song they should have showed to what extent she can be possessive for Sakshi. She doesn't like any third person between them.

Subbaraju

I don't know why as soon as I see him or hear his name I remember Kumara Varma🤣🤣🤣.

He excelled in his character as Vivek. I loved the trio Sakshi,Sonali and Vivek. The bond they shared was shown well. At one point I thought he would propose Sakshi 😂. Anyone else who thought the same?

Anjali:

Acting wise I liked her as a cop. Her dressing was 👌 But what really disappointed me was her narration in the beginning..
Somewhere the narrative style didn't arise any curiosity at all.

Michael Madsen

I guess not many know it was not his voice in the movie. Maybe he didn't want to dub or his accent was not understandable. His character was not convincing at all. He was ok ok. Could have casted someone else too because he didn't get anything new on the table or any impact.

Cinematography

Shaniel Deo should be given due credit for his cinematography. He was fantastic.

Background score

I have mixed opinion for this. At the beginning in the haunted house it was very scary. The background score was superb in that scene. I jumped off the chair once because I was not alert enough. Later it didn't created much impact. For a thriller the background score is very critical but not much of an impact in the film.

Production

The production value of the movie is good. Could have shot the movie in India too..The location of the movie doesn't add anything to the movie.

Director

He had a good script, a good starcast, a good production house but yet failed to use them and give a blockbuster. I am sure the script was very good in paper and that's why Sweety and Maddy signed it. Director terribly failed in execution. He didn't utilise his starcast. The character development failed big time because of which it didn't justify few things. Should have tightened the screenplay. Didn't utilise Maddy and Sweety chemistry.
Sweety and Shalini are brought up together in an orphanage in Seattle. Then how come they both know Telugu? It's not an orphanage run by Indians or a telugite. Should have worked on these small aspects too...maybe if the movie was engaging this question would not have come to my mind. Like this there are many questions. There is a connection of girls going missing in Seattle and Sonali's missing case. I felt the director should have shown a few scenes of girls going missing just like how they showed that haunted house instead of just repeating that sentence multiple times through Anjali in the starting of the movie  (It's just my personal opinion).

This is my review of the movie. This movie is a missed opportunity for the director.

Do let me know your opinion too. Let's have a healthy discussion.
