"Ah shit." I winced as the water spilled all over me.
"Ey, language!", a voice called, laughing from the other side of the dinner table.
"Jacob!" I shouted, giving him a death glare. What an idiot.
"Hannah, that's enough!" Mom called and I rolled my eyes.
"Jacob, sit down, behave- and don't spill anymore water!" Jacob's Mom Alyssa pointed at him sternly as I went to my room to change.
Jacob and I have known each other for life, yet we're completely separated at school. He used to be so sweet. I wonder what went wrong because he's just the biggest asshole now.
Although he's never opened up to me, I feel like we're really close. There's just something about him that-
"Please hurry up, Hannah, dinner's ready and we're all waiting." I heard my mom's voice and headed downstairs.
I sat in my original spot and kept quiet, looking down at my plate as if there was something extremely fascinating on it.
"Hannah," A blurry voice came from the seat next to me. "Hannah? Hannah to earth!" "Hannah!" My mom's voice called for the last time as I looked up.
"Help me with getting dessert please, honey."
I nodded, came into the kitchen and followed her behind the fridge door.
"What the hell is wrong with you today?!" She looked me up and down.
"Nothing! It's just that Jacob is such a jerk! No one saw it but he spilled the water on purpose-"
"You need to grow up and stop blaming others for your own mistakes! I'm sick of it." I could feel my eyes sting and well-up at her firm words.
"Get dessert and bring it to the table."
As I brought the cheesecake to our long jarrah wood dining table, I was at breaking point.
"Excuse me." My croaky voice managed to slip a couple of words out before I ran to my room. I looked back to see a concerned expression on Jacob's face. Maybe he isn't such an idiot after all.
