Headcanon:

I imagine that in the months that Percy was missing, Annabeth started spending a lot of time with Mrs. O' Leary. Mrs. O' Leary was a good listener while Annabeth poured her troubles out. Sometimes she forgets and falls asleep on Mrs. O' Leary back. And up until the departure of the Argo II they were inseparable.
