" Where's the gun?"
"Look, you're not listening. I already told you there is no gun, because I didn't kill anybody."
I've been sitting in this interrogation room for over three hours now. I can't help but shake, which is probably making me look all more guilty. I made it a mission in my life never get caught up in any illegal shit. After my mom got locked up when I was eight, I made a promise to myself that would never be me. I never wanted my kids to go through any of the hardships that I have. I vow to myself that my kids will have a mother. More than that, they will have a loving family. They won't know anything about no knowing where their mother is. Never having to worry about if we have enough to pay the bills. None of that.
"Ariana at this point you aren't helping yourself. We have witnesses placing you at the scene. You might as well tell us what happened, and save yourself the trouble of all this back and forth."
"Okay", I say and he slightly raises his brow. Thinking he's got to me, that I'm going to admit to something he already thinks I did.
"I said all this shit before, I was there. All I was trying to do was buy some chips, that's it. Two niggas came in and shot him, but I don't know who they are. Nor did I see their faces either. "
Obviously what i'm saying sounds like a foreign language to him. He's already made up his mind, I'm guilty in his eyes. People love to say racism is dead and things are different. I can't lie and say somethings haven't changed, because obviously they have. But this country was rooted on racism and it still is as prevalent as before. Its just now you can't be as outright with it. It can be seen all over. From TV, social media to our government and justice system. There will people who will deny these clams, but the evidence can be seen everyday. Even though I have to work harder than others, pushing myself for what I want out of this life will make my accomplishments so much more great. Now it seems that I may never even get there.
"I'm tired of this shit, do you know how long you'll be put away for killing a detective. Too many years, y-"
"A DETECTIVE, wait wait wait. Nah that ain't right." Hearing that made my mind race. All this shit is way bigger than me. I start to wonder whats on that USB I found.
"You seem like you have some intelligence, don't act like you don't know whats going on. How did your crew find out about the sting. Who's been pushing drugs through the store? Who do you work for? They can't protect you now." The fuck is he talking about? This is too much, I need to get out of here. I know Raquita is worried about me and I can't even let her know I'm alive.
"You got the wrong person, I have no fucking idea what you're talking about. I don't know shit about any drugs. I swear to you." He face becomes red, you can tell he's about to lose his shit.
" I swear I've been to nice to people like you, what the fuck I need to know." He reaches over and grabs my shirt, lifting me up out my chair. Making me stand to my feet. My blood is boiling, this dumb ass nigga isn't listening to shit I have to say and has the nerve to put his hands on me. If it wasn't for my hands being handcuffed to the table I would have swung on him, it was probably better that they are. I'm already in too much shit. Right as he's about to spit in my face, another officer walks in. Telling by his attire, he was higher up in the chain.
"Let her go, she's clean and we have nothing to hold her."
"Nah Captain I can feel it she's involved somehow, I just know it."
"Cornell, let her go NOW." He scuffs and releases my shirt. "Fuck you",I call out to him as he walks out the room and slams the door behind him. The captain undoes my hand cuffs, I rotate my wrist. I didn't expect handcuffs to hurt so bad.
