In her new world of empty space, Hermione found that this was the best way to fill in the gaps. Little flashes of light in a world that continued to be filled with such darkness; pinning the strength of her sanity down to a few simple things that brought her the utmost happiness. Sometimes, when she found herself really struggling to get through the day, it was easiest to write them down.
Her parents, having returned home with fully restored memories of their daughter. Her cat, still easily aggravated but becoming much friendlier in his old age. Dinners and game nights at the Burrow, with the second family that still treated her like one of their own. All scribbled down in a rough list on the pad of paper that rested on her office desk.

It was almost always the same basic list, with the odd addition when she was having a particularly good day, but reciting it made her feel more at ease regardless.
When she had first found herself struggling to deal with the new complexities to her feelings after the war, her therapist had recommended the task to her as a coping mechanism.
Such a simple task, she had explained, yet it does the mind a world of good.
Three years later, still suffering from the overwhelming feeling of guilt that pained her chest, she still completed the task almost weekly.
Things were much harder when she was still at Hogwarts, returning after the war with Ginny to complete the final year she had missed. There, she was constantly reminded of the two giant holes that were missing from her life, the silence that came from the absence of their laughter becoming eerie. She almost hadn't returned, but she was so desperate to finish her exams, and studying became an adequate distraction. Ginny had helped too, or rather, they had helped each other - but even she couldn't fill the gap that her two best friends had left.
