Being stung by a bee always hurt for the first time, and well it seemed it always was a first time for Ava. She hadn't had a first kiss or had she had a phone before. Including she never got stung by a bee before.Ava was new to everything it seemed since she first moved to America. Her father had been supporting her family with his job as a lawyer back in Europe, but her father had passed away too deeply involved in his case to remember to pay back someone he owed.
Now her and her mother Eliza had to move back to America with unpayed debt lingering back in Europe along with her fathers dead body.
Now broke unable to pay for their house they had came back to America to live with an old friend of her mothers. All Ava knew was that her mothers friend was rich and their husband was the mayor.
Ava didn't know what animals lurked in America, the last time she had been here was when she was 4 years old. Her youthful mind was too wrapped up in whether she was getting dessert after dinner or not.
Ava knew her mother cared about her but it always felt like she was avoiding her now with no money to their name her mother was always working late. She never told Ava anything about what she was up for when she turned 17. The most important thing Ava had missed out on was boys and the outdoors. Her pale complex had only worsened as years went by she barely went outside her mother warning her about what creatures lurked in the middle of the night.
Ava's mother had just pulled up to the Lockwoods Manor where she was going to be staying at for the next couple of months until her mother could pay off their fathers debt back in Europe and afford a nice home here in America.
Ava didn't know if the Lockwoods had children or not she just hoped none of them were age. She was not very social and she had feared she would come off as an "awkward loser" as the kids in her old school had said it.
"Sweetie come on we dont want to keep the Lockwoods waiting, and make sure to show your manners the Lockwoods are very noble people."
Ava almost had choked on the laughter she was holding back when her mother had emphasized the Lockwoods were noble people. She was sure they were goint to be like every other rich people in America, snobs.
"Yes mother." Ava had just wanted this to be over with so she got out her mothers black BMW her dres following after her. Since it was in the middle of the summer Ava had gone with a dress that had reached her knees with some white sandals to complete the look. Her mother never let Ava wear make up always saying it made her look like every other girl in America.
To be honest, Ava was starting to think her mother had a thing against America but Ava didn't want to assume.
Ava's mother knocked on the door waiting patiently for Mrs. Lockwood to answer the door, and that she did. Mrs. Lockwood was a women in her mid 40's, a warm smile perfectly etched onto her symmetrical tan face.
Ava almost envied the women, jealous of her natural tan skin.
"Sarah it is so good to see you again, how is brad?""I can say the same to you and we can catch up on everything once i show you to your rooms."
"How sweet of you Sarah."
Ava dramatically rolled her eyes. Mentally of course. She didn't want to be rude to the nice old women allowing them into her home but, she was just tired of her mothers conversation with the women not knowing the history hiding behind their eyes when they looked at each other.
"Sarah" or Mrs. Lockwood had led them up the stairs into a big hallway with doors leading down the whole entire way.
"Ava this is where you will be staying its one of our guest rooms, and if you ever need help my son's room is right down the hall."
Thats what got Ava's attention. She didn't know that Sarah had a son she had just prayed he wasn't her age.
"Oh may I ask, whats his age?"
Ava could feel her throat constricting with anticipation waiting for what she was going to say ."Oh, I think he's about your age he's a senior in highschool you two should be going to the same school I believe, anways I hope you like your room dinner will be done shortly."
Ava froze as Mrs. Lockwood walked past her after giving her a welcoming warm smile not noticing the evident look of pure horror on Ava's face.
She was going to be living with a boy for her entire summer and better yet his room was right down the hall, only 3 rooms down from Ava's.
