"Detective Salar! This is Officer Hadi from District Police. Report to me immediately at number two forty-eight, street nine", Officer Hadi hurriedly informed Detective Salar on the phone while he was himself at the crime scene. Detective Salar got up from his bed, all alert now. He put on his round spectacles from the bed side table and glanced at the wall clock. It was eleven o'clock at night. "But number two forty-eight is a bank, isn't it? Is it a robbery case?" Detective Salar asked as he quickly got dressed. "It's a far complicated case than a simple robbery, Detective Salar. Please come asap."

Officer Hadi said as he hung up. Detective Salar grabbed his inventory case and hurried outside and drove to the bank. He parked the car a few yards from the crime scene. As he got out and walked towards the bank, he could see a crowd of people, all gasping and scared, their eyes glued in the direction of the bank entry. Detective Salar moved quickly through the sea of people and met Officer Hadi at the entrance. "Thank god you're here. Come, have a look." Officer Hadi led him to the iron gate of the bank. Only which was supposed to be iron because it seemed as if someone had poured acid on it and it melted away like wax. "My god", Detective Salar whispered seeing the effect of the unknown substance on the iron bars.

He quickly took some sample of the decayed metal door. "How much money did the thief take from the vaults?" Detective Salar asked as they went inside to the vaults. "That's the strangest thing, Detective. The thief didn't take any money from the safe", said Officer Hadi. Detective Salar frowned as he looked at the curiously melted safe locks. "Seems like our thief had to search quite a bit before stealing", Detective Salar said observing four deformed locks, "Or maybe not..." "What do you mean?" asked Officer Hadi.

"It's quite possible that the thief wanted to lure us by making it look as if he had rummaged in three other safes, when in reality he was already certain which locker he was looking for." Detective Salar concluded. "But the thief left us a clue too. Look," Detective Salar showed how three of the safes locks were red hot as if they were recently burnt just as the thief was leaving whereas one of them seemed to have been burnt formerly. "Please arrange a meeting of this vault's owner with me." Detective Salar said, pointing to the black lock.
