CHAPTER 5

I GET TO KNOW A SECRET

"Marc! Wait, I can explain all this, it's just that-"

Before Fritz could finish what, he was saying, I stormed out of the room. I found myself in the other room with the door locked behind me.

I took a deep breath and shut my eyes, hoping that this wasn't real. Everything will be fine. It's okay, Marc. Just a bad dream. It's going to be okay. I kept on chanting to myself. I opened my eyes, and realized that it was not a dream, it was true. But I was okay, I had to figure out a lot of stuff. What just happened? What was wrong with Fritz? He had to tell me something, but I came here. Damn it.

What I had just done, was not like me at all. I never cut people off when they are talking or anything like that. And I just rushed out of the room, I was kind of proud of myself for doing that. After all, I had spent all my life listening to bullshit of other people. I was too fed up now.

I was too nervous to even take a step any further. I just sat there with my back against the door, with my hands surrounding my knees. I relaxed a bit and took a look around the room. There was no furniture but the floor was covered with Fritz's laundry, dirty and clean. I think it was the smell coming from his socks that were spread all over the floor that made me feel sick.

A few minutes passed by, and I couldn't take it anymore, I was having trouble breathing. Not because of the smell, I don't know what made me feel that way. Maybe I was about to have a panic attack. I couldn't figure it out, so I tried to get up and leave the room, but as I got up, I fell back to the ground, as if something pushed me back down. The gravity felt so strong. Every second that passed by, it was getting harder and harder for me to breathe. It came to a point I couldn't breathe anymore and the pressure on my lungs felt strong and just then my head started pounding and I saw stars dancing around my eyes and I lost consciousness.

I don't know for how long I was out but when I woke up, strangely enough I felt good, but hungry. Just as I sat up, I looked around and there was smoke coming from a mirror. I walked towards it, and the smoke started taking shape of a human. I got scared and tried to run back to the door, but it was locked and I was knocked over by Fritz's pile of clothes, I tried to get up, but I failed, and in the process, I scraped my knees and it hurt like hell.

"Do not run!" the voice called, I couldn't tell if it was a male or a female voice, it sounded auto-tuned.

What the hell is happening I wondered.

I felt a tingle on my left ear as if someone touched me but very gently, but no one was there in the room. Something was trying to get me up on my feet, but the moment it touched me it disappeared. It was smoke! I was touched by smoke, the smoky creature was after me, and it could talk! But how? This kind of stuff doesn't happen in real life. Am I hallucinating? But I didn't have any drugs. I needed answers!

"Do not fear Marc, we are trying to help" the voice whispered in my ear, and I again felt something pushing me, and this time I looked, and it really was the smoke. The voice sounded more female now but it was powerful, and demanding.

"We are your allies, do not fear us" the voice said. I gazed at this smoke creature in startlement. I was too shocked to say anything. I opened my mouth to inquire what I was seeing but no words came out of my mouth. I sat up with my back leaning against the door, and I was fully conscious now taking notes of my surrounding. The creature looked like it was free now, no part of its body was now attached to the mirror. The room looked exactly the same as it was before except the pile of laundry didn't look like a pile anymore because I had spread it all over the floor when I fell. I looked at the smoke creature, it kept changing its shape. It looked a lot like a human figure but just made out of smoke, which made it change its form. I had no idea what this thing was, and it said that it was my ally. I guess I had nothing to fear, but I sat there in utter bewilderment.
