Ashlynn's POV
I heard footsteps coming down the hall. I rolled my eyes and went to the door, opening it and coming face to face with Michael.
"What do you want?" I snapped at him.
"The police are getting too suspicious" he sneered.
"So? What do you want me to do about it?"
"We're moving. Get your stuff now. And lose the fucking attitude. Be ready in an hour"
With that he punched me in the face and walked away.
Moving? We haven't moved in seven years. I wonder where we're going?
I shook Zara awake.
"Ugh what? It's like 6 am" she whined.
I laughed.
"Get up lazy ass we're moving. Help me pack"
"What do you mean we're moving? Wait we're actually moving?!?! YAY" she squealed.
"Shhhhh you're going to wake up the girls" I said laughing at her excitement.
She rolled her eyes and threw her pillow at me. Which was a mistake because I didn't give it back. Eventually she started helping me pack up all of our stuff, which didn't take long.
"Come on let's wake up the girls" I said
"I call Sarah!!! Haha you have to wake up Emmaaaaa" she sang
I rolled my eyes and laughed. Zara woke up Sarah in about two seconds, Sarah immediately running to the closet to find her outfit, she's a little fashionista, while I walked over to where Emma was sleeping. Now I know it shouldn't be that hard to wake up a six year old, and Emma's the sweetest girl ever, but she is NOT a morning person.
"Emma. Emma sweetie wake up."
She rolled over, saying something unintelligible about unicorns.
"Emma. Emma we're moving we have to leave now"
"No."
"Emma. Yes."
"NO"
"I'll give you a plum"
She sat up immediately, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Holding out her little hands for her plum. I smiled at her and handed it to her.
"Where are we moving to?"She asked
"I don't know yet" I replied
She shrugged
"Okay"
We left a little while after that and got in the car. I kept asking Michael where we were going but he slapped me every time so eventually I stopped. I let him think his slaps hurt but they don't really anymore. I'm used to them. I turned around and smiled at what I saw. All of the girls were reading books instead of being on their phones.
I taught them well
I turned back to my own book. It was one I had never read before called Neverworld Wake. We were in the car for hours. I finished my first book and moved on to one called All We Have Left. I kept reading until the car finally stopped. I looked around. We were in a town that I could swear felt familiar, but I quickly brushed the feeling aside. Michael glared at me so I got the girls and our belongings and got out. Freeing him to go get drunk again. We got to the door and found that it was locked. And we didn't have a key.
I turned to Zara and smirked, holding out my hand. She smirked at me and handed me a hair pin. I picked the lock. It was a skill I had taught myself for whenever we needed money for food. We walked inside and looked around. There were only three bedrooms so we decided Sarah and Emma would share one while Zara and I were in the other. We unpacked out things and the little ones went to bed.
Soon enough we heard Michael stumbling around downstairs. We shared the same look.
Here we go again...
