“The Graduation Ball is so exciting! You would go Kaila. Right?” Martha looked at me and her expression was don’t-you-ever-say-no.
“Uh.. Yes?” I really can’t say no or else, she might kill me with her look.
We are now in the cafeteria with Ryan – her soon to be boyfriend. Actually, we don’t have classes for today but we did research in the library.
“Yeeess! We need to find a date for you!” Martha exclaimed
“That won’t be necessary.” I said in monotone.
“But why? You need someone to accompany you most if the time. Well, Martha and I will be together most of the time. We don’t want to leave you alone.” Ryan said.
“Alright, find me a date if you can. If there is someone willing to hang out with me?” I said sarcastically.
“Hey! Don’t be mean to yourself. There are a lot of boys who would like to be with you.” Martha said.
“Yeah! And besides, you are pretty.” Ryan added.
“Okay. Okay. Just stop it guys. Thanks. You are my friends so you don’t need to tell me sweet words like that. I would go to the Graduation Ball with or without a date. Okay?” I just need to end the conversation. I hate receiving those kinds of words. It seems untrue. But I’m not saying that my friends are lying. It’s just that, they might say that because we are friends.
“Anyway Kai. summer vacation is coming. I’m very excited! What’s your plans for the summer?” Martha is always excited about anything.
“Don’t have yet. You Ry?”
“Hmm. We’ll go out of Town. In Palawan, I guess.”
“Whoa! That’s my dream vacation! Can we go?” I looked to Martha.
“If I became sure, I’ll ask mom.”
“It will be also Drew’s graduation.” Martha said. There was something in her voice that was really intended for me to hear. It was like Martha already knew my feelings but she only waits for me to tell that to her.
Then it hit me. Graduation. After that, there will be little chances that I might see Drew. I won’t be seeing him anymore. I felt sad, really sad, until Martha tapped me on the shoulder because I was blankly staring at her face.
“You okay?” she asked me with a concerned look on her face.
“Hmm. Martha,” I’m fishing for words. I don’t know how to say this. I wanted to ask her advice.
She just looked at me fixedly.
“Is it a perfect time to confess your feelings on the Graduation Day? I mean..” I can’t say this anymore. I’m planning to just say ‘never mind’ until she finished my question.
“You mean, you would like to confess your feelings for Drew on the day of his Graduation because you might feel less guilty if he will reject you after because you might not be able to see him again anymore?”
“Exactl.. Hey! That’s not... what... I wanted to say!” I complained.
“Hahaha. I’m just waiting for you to tell me that you are in love with your Kuya Drew. Don’t keep that to yourself Kai. Sometimes, you need an outlet. You need someone that knows exactly what you are going through. Because if you will only hide and contain that to yourself, there will come a time that all your feelings will explode and you might tell Drew right in front his face. You wouldn’t want to do that, right? “
I nodded then shook my head.
“Don’t tell him. Please? Promise me. Martha? Ryan?” I begged.
“Just promise me you will tell him on or before their graduation.” Ryan said.
“Ye-es.” My voice is shaking. I felt nervous. I promised them so I must really do it. But how? I felt double nervous.
