Nightmare was sitting under the tree to guard it while his brother, Dream, went to play with the village kids and adults. This gave a few people and monsters the opportunity to hit and bully Nightmare all they wanted.
Dream did not even notice since he was so busy playing with the village people and monsters. Dream was so naive making a few to take advantageous Dream to take out their anger on Nightmare.
Nightmare is reading a book the only nice old lady gave to him until he was hit by a rock that was thrown at him.

Nightmare was on the ground all bruised up by the beating but stayed close to the tree.
Dream still hasn't come back to check on the tree or his brother.
Nightmare wishes to have a friends or maybe even one would be enough.
It was getting dark making Nightmare close his eyes and slowly drift into an uneasy sleep.
