CHAPTER TWO
CHAPTER TWO:
Congratulations? For What?
Yue was yawning as she entered the elevator, she didn't quite manage to get as much sleep as she wanted the night before. After the news had broken out, her phone blew up with congratulatory messages. From past costars, to people that she couldn't even remember getting the contact information of - the list was never ending. She hasn't checked her social media yet, so she was sure that there were still some greetings that she hasn't answered.
The elevator opened and she slowly stepped out, walking towards the meeting room. Why did Mantra decide to have a meeting at such an early hour? It was only 7 am, she just wanted to go back to bed. Deciding that she was here anyways and she might as well make use of the fact that she got up so early, she entered the meeting room.
Only to be greeted by a bunch of . . . smiling employees?
What the hell was this? Was she in a parallel universe?
"Shen Yue!" one of them positively shrieks, "oh my god we've been waiting for you!"
Was this a fan meet? How did they get inside the company? This was so weird. Yue blinked, carefully eyeing each of the smiling employees. Oh my god, what if they were all a bunch of serial killers? She's only 26, she can't die yet!
None of their smiles were falling off; she was starting to worry for their facial muscles. Plus the fact that she didn't know a single person by name. Where were the usual people? She was so ready to meet an enraged CEO or something. She came here on the assumption that she was about to get scolded for something, because she would usually be called to the meeting room for stuff like Shen Yue's your CP fans with this guy are too strong or Shen Yue we need you to tone down your friendship with this person.
Listen, was it her fault that she liked making friends with people? Of course she would post her pictures with her friends on her social media; it's her account. If not for her friends, who would she post with? The trees? Her arch nemesis?
Although it has been a while since she was last called for a scolding, even if she interacted with her friends on Weibo.
Deciding to take a risk, she asked, "What's up, guys?"
As if waiting for her cue, their smiles got even wider (how the heck was that even possible?) and as if rehearsed, they all screamed, "CONGRATULATIONS!"
Congratulations? For what? For making it to the meeting room?
"Uh," she laughs awkwardly, "congratulations for what?"
Once again, like a choreographed band they moved and brought out a tarp
WHERE THE HELL DID THEY GET A TARP?
Focusing on the tarp, her eyes zeroed in on the words congratulations for the nomination, Shen Yue! Our official top paid artist.
What? What did they mean?
"What are you guys talking about?" She laughs, "thank you for congratulating me on the nomination though."
"You haven't heard? Huh," a girl steps up, "well consider this the formal announcement. Congratulations, Shen Yue! You're officially one of the top paid actresses of your generation and singer. You're a top paid artist now, in general."
Her eyes widened. She didn't know what she was expecting, but it definitely wasn't that. It feels like it was just yesterday when she would trend on every single day because her anti fans saw yet another thing they didn't like about her.
"Do you need to sit down?" the girl from before asked a bit nervously, "you look like you're about to faint."
Ah. That made sense. Yue nodded and sat down on a chair, immediately gesturing for everyone else to sit down as well. Once they were all seated, it was then explained to Yue that the people in the room were all employees who would now be dedicated to her work; although not full time as they will sill obviously work for other Mantra artists, but they will be involved with her frequently.
"Oh," Yue speaks up with a smile, "if that's the case, you guys can just call me Yue or Yueyue. We're all going to be working together quite closely, so I look forward to having a good relationship with you all!"
The employees were all stunned. So the rumors were true, Shen Yue really was one of the nicest artists in this industry. Some of them thought that it was just media play or really good acting. Yue asked around the table for each of their names and their contact numbers. She spent a while chatting with them, eyes gleaming with interest and a smile always on her face. How was it even possible for someone to be so kind?
"When my mom saw the soup that I made she had cried, asking why I was trying to poison her," Yue was saying through her laughter, "but seven year old just thought that her little star erasers were pretty and therefore delicious! My mom forced me to cook with her after that; she said she didn't want me to accidentally kill someone in the future because I though paint would be good food coloring or something."
Everyone in the room was laughing when Yue's manager's phone suddenly dinged, and after inspection they found out that the CEO had arrived. The two stood up, preparing to go the meeting. They said goodbye to the crew and left.
Once it was just them the employees began talking among themselves.
"Can you believe she's that nice?"
"Well, that's Shen Yue for you. She even said 'it's okay if you don't like me, I still love you' to her haters."
That really was Shen Yue for you, always so unbelievable kind. Always.
