“The process holds a promise.”
~SCHOOL~
Farah walked through her school corridor as scores of students drooped thronged each area. Haven’s Middle School was a death trap, at least she presumed it was. There were many extracurricular activities and groups occurring all at once, which resulted in an unnerving feeling of having too many people at school. For Farah, it also meant that these students would be separated into cliques, not that it was a bad thing. After all, most people in cliques have a common bond about something, anyway.
Despite that understanding, there was one particular person she refused to see on this hallway, Kaitlyn Dawn. Thinking back, Kaitlyn had not been mean to her since elementary school. In fact, Farah and Kaitlyn conversed on very rare occasions in middle school. If they bumped into each other in the hallway, their chat would usually consist of Kaitlyn annoyingly saying to be more careful. Farah groaned, avoiding any more thoughts about her irritating enemy who had always seemed to be disgusted by her. She began walking faster, hoping to reach her class soon.
As she steered her body through the ring of hormone driven bodies, a series of cramps raged, wringing through her stomach. She stopped in her tracks, clenching it immediately, stifling the immense pain infiltrating her entire body. This sharp poking, it felt as if her stomach was tightening at every interval.
During this week, Farah had come to understand something rather important, females are quite patient, especially if they have to undergo this sort of pain once a month. Farah had started menustration this week, and quite frankly, she already felt like it was the end of the world.
Her dad, being as helpful as he could possibly be in this situation, downloaded a five episode web series from the internet about periods and every night they played an episode to better understand what they were dealing with. She realised that what they were entering was new territory, for the both of them, and since the internet was a landmine of knowledge, Farah appreciated his gesture. She loved that he wanted to help, but the truth was, no matter how much she craved to say it, she could not bring herself to do so, though she thought of it all of the time.
Things would have been easier if her mother was here-
but the truth was, her mother never came nor tried to exist in her life, even when she claimed that she would. Thoughts raced back to the last two years, though she made a solid effort to forget about it, that letter with a false promise, and that dreadful birthday with a stifling truth. Farah scoffed loudly, a scowl resonating through her face. Her mother was a liar, and she resented her.
She scanned the hallway, viewing her locker in sight. Entering her secret code, she opened it, taking her textbooks to enter Math period. All she needed to do was to get over this day, or for the very most, at least this week.
“Excited to learn about negative numbers?” A voice sung behind her locker door as Farah closed it nonchalantly.
She sighed, seeing Declan giggle at the new topic that they were about to learn. If anyone was going to be this excited about school, it was definitely going to be him. “Declan, you annoy me but also slightly impress me with your excitement for math.”
His smile widened as he nudged her hand softly, “Come on, let me help you with math; I’m a good tutor.”
She smiled softly, appreciating his kind gesture, “It’s okay Declan. I’m not a straight A student, but I do fairly okay. I like my average.”
He shrugged his shoulders as they entered the classroom ready to begin Math. If there was any person who could annoy her to the point of smiling, it would be him. At least she was in a slightly better mood than before. Farah sat in the middle of the classroom, as Declan sat next to her. She turned forward, viewing Kaitlyn and her friends in the distance. They were laughing and talking, very likely that it would be about someone else. She rolled her eyes, fixing her gaze to her textbook. Middle school was severely annoying. As she opened it, a small letter dropped to the floor. SHAWN.
