How despicable and shameless those who called me "little witch"! I never understood why people always labeled this cute and soft-hearted girl as a "witch."
Huft!
Take an example of my bad luck encounter this morning. So, there was a boy on the verge of tears. I sort of wanted to empathize with him, so I got closer to him and asked, "Hey, kid," I called out, "What's going on? Do you need any help?"
"Huaaaa." His cries burst forth as if his world had crumbled. "I lost it. Huaaa!"
"Hey, hey! What did you lose? Let me help you find it."
"Huaa. It's my Marvin. Huaaa."
Marvin? That hideous hero that seemed to be all the rage these days among the kids? How could anyone find that eyesore appealing?
"Hey, calm down," I muttered, my annoyance creeping into my voice. "I know someone way cooler than Marvin."
I rummaged through my bag and retrieved my trusty crafting device. It was a flying jar, adorned with mysterious symbols that harnessed mana from the surroundings to power its creations.
As the symbols on the device shimmered to life, a holographic screen materialized before us. Only I could see its contents—a selection of options for crafting objects using mana.
I made a choice, conforming the object I wanted to put into reality. A beam of mana shot out from the jar, giving form to my creation. And there it was, my personal favorite—Toby!
"Ta-da! Meet Toby," I declared, a wide smile spreading across my face as I made Toby wave its little hand in greeting.
The boy's eyes widened, fixed on Toby, who dutifully reciprocated the gesture, proving his artificial intelligence was working well. Yet, instead of gratitude or awe, the boy jerked his hand away and sprinted towards the park's rest area.
"Huaaa.... Huaaa... HUAAAAAA...!!!"
The boy released his hand from my grasp! He ran along the park to the rest building, stopping after finding himself in his mother's embrace, who was busily chatting with other mommies.
"Huaaa. It's Toby of the Little Witch."
It's that nickname again!
The calling stung me once again, but I quickly shook off my annoyance. Toby looked at me with its moist eyes, silently seeking reassurance.
Even a random kid recognized Toby as the Little Witch's favorite! How popular was I, actually?
"No, Toby. Nothing is wrong with you," I said, patting my precious' head gently. "It's just that some people can't see your true beauty and cuteness."
Toby was modelled to imitate an imp. A sort of unbalanced imp!
What? do you find it a problem?
---
As we stood there in the park, I couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration. It had been more than a hundred years since the campaign for equality began, yet discrimination still persisted, even in a world like ours where science and magic intertwined.
With a sigh, I looked down at Toby, who was still gazing up at me. "You know, Toby, sometimes it feels like the world will never change. But we can't let that stop us. We'll keep fighting for what we believe in, won't we?"
Toby nodded, its head bobbing up and down in agreement. Its unwavering support brought a glimmer of hope to my heart.
make one for you. I guarantee it will be far greater and cuter than any you've ever had."
