The pain of those that have suffered because of hateful prejudice and racism, is not a pain I can pretend to understand. I have never seen a family member arrested, a friend expelled, a neighbor murdered, just for the color of their skin. I have never been shunned or excluded because of my beliefs, dishonored because of my profession, or hated for my creed.
I don’t know that pain, and I hope I will never have to suffer as so many do.
I can’t pass judgement or offer wisdom on things I have not lived. So instead, I hope you will listen to something I know deeply, truly, and innocently.
Love.
Love and Kindness.
I have seen mothers kissing bruises, widows sewing blankets for newborns, and classmates raising funds for charity. I have seen kindness growing, a pebble triggering a landslide, kindness moving mountains.
Most people are good. Most people are kind and caring. But too many people are lost, consumed by the darkness of Hate, unwilling to see the Light in the world.
But the smallest light can cut through miles of darkness.
That is why I am inviting you to play a game with me. Don’t worry, it’s not a hard game. All you have to do is find one person in your life that has done something kind, and thank them for it. Anyone, from anytime. Your mother, a neighbor, your second-grade teacher. Anyone. There are only two rules.1. Be Kind
2. Be SincereThis will not solve all the problems in the world, but maybe it will make a world of difference to one person. Then it will be worth it.
