Their lips parted gingerly, slowly locking eye contact with each other as the music continued to play faintly in the back.
Guy's eyes wandered around, expecting to have become an entirely different being with the one he loved, but obviously it didn't happen.
His beloved laid in his arms with that signature star-eyed expression. The soft light from the dance floor reflecting off his pearly white, golden fur; sparkling across his lilac-snow dress.
Like an angel from heaven...
The entire image was beyond any kind of beauty the knox had ever seen. It was short lived as he immediately brought himself back to reality, coming back to his purpose from the start.
"We—" Guy began, confused, "We didn't fuse."
There was a small period of silence between them before a sudden burst of laughter erupted from Sam. He moved out of the dip position they were in and covered his joyful smile, clumsily speaking in between.
"You can't— Ha! ... fuse, Guy! Haha! You're not a... Pfft! A gem!"
Well, of course not. He wasn't stupid — But then again, maybe trying to prove his hypothesis was right really may have been.
Guy reddened slightly from embarrassment as Sam continued to giggle hysterically towards how silly the former must've appeared with his goal.
"Look, I know! I know..." He rubbed the back of his neck and frowned sadly towards his partner, "Agh, Sam, that's the problem! I'm not a gem like you or the others! I'm just... I'm just me."
Sam shook his head with a sweet innocent smile, "Aw, you goofball, that's not a problem at all! I love beings like you!"
He reached his hand out, booping the knox's nose playfully.
"You're all so funny!"
...
"Funny"
The word felt like a stab to the heart. So carelessly thrown into him that he couldn't even react properly. All he could do was give up a small nervous smile to cover his hurt emotions over Sam's mockery.
"Look. Listen, Sam— These past few months... They've really been great. Don't get me wrong, I've never been happier than spending time with you... A-and I really appreciate you caring about me as well."
Sam chuckled and placed a hand on the other's shoulder, "Well, why wouldn't I? You're brilliantly intelligent and such a young talented singer, Mr. Universe!"
"And a very smooth charmer—" He growled playfully, before giggling once more, "But, really, Guy... Fusion between you and me? What made you think of something so silly?"
"I..." Guy looked down, thinking to himself quietly. At this point, fusion didn't seem to be the most major problem between them. It was then he started to really question if their whole relationship was even taken seriously between the two equally.
He fell in love with Sam over the course of those months and the longer it was, the stronger it became. So distracted by the blur of those gentle kisses and cheesy flirting that he never thought realistically over the matter.
Their romance didn't feel... Real, exactly.
Of course, it was there! All the physical contact and words—
The connection.
That's what was missing.
The entirety of it all was only based on how Guy saw Sam with only a very small viewpoint on who he really was. That's exactly why. He never knew the real Sam. The same went for how Sam doesn't truly know him either.
"Fusion is the ultimate connection between gems!"
That memory came back to him, stinging with every truthful word that was said.
"And you"
Becoming louder.
"Are not"
And louder.
"A gem."
Guy's eyes shut tightly as he faced that past statement again. He didn't want to believe it at first because he wanted to prove that maybe at some kind of miracle...
All he wanted was to prove how much Sam meant to him. He wanted to understand him. Fusion really did seem like the only way he could show beyond doubt that they could be closer. But now.. He had to change that belief.
Both of his hands went in and held Sam's with delicacy, much of a reminiscence from their sweet memory that began their bond all those months ago.
"My way of thinking isn't always... With being sure of myself. I figured that fusion would complete the whole picture, but I'm not like your... Kind. I... I can't say I'm capable of being able to comprehend everything about your life."
Guy paused and gently squeezed into his hold, letting out an exhale of air before continuing.
"Everything about that. It makes me worried now about... The— Um... Future. I... I'm just starting to wonder if you even... Respect me?"
...
Then the whole world went silent
