CHAPTER ONE

You would think that as a know-it-all, Nathan Kessler should actually, well...Know-it-all. He knew the periodic table like the back of his hand, Mathematics was like high school musical series to him, and he could look at an object he has never seen before and reassemble the parts in his mind. He could easily argue over quantum physics with the likes of college professors, which he did almost every weekend when they invited him over to the university lab at the small town of River Halo. Every boy genius should own a secret laboratory at the basement of his house, so he was not an exception. At the age of thirteen, while his mates were just discovering girls, he had invented zero energy which could power up the empire state building for months if used correctly, (Sadly, his parents had confiscated it when it blew up all the light bulbs in the house and his father’s Alfa Romeo.)

By now, I'm sure your first impression of Nathan would be; impossibly large head, inflated ego, buck tooth and bottled glasses. In other words, Nerd! Perhaps you would also picture him the way you would Albert Einstein. Well...You're right.

Nathan Kessler looked like every average seventeen year old. Tall, a little on the lean side, sandy-blond hair, and yes ladies and gentlemen, he did wear glasses, but only when he needed to work in his lab. And no, he had prefect teeth. If you ever saw him on the streets, you probably wouldn't bother with a second glance. Everything about him would strike you as awkward. If you knew that how smart he was, then his mismatched clothes wouldn’t strike you as odd. Every scientist suffered the dreaded disease; ADHD, attention deficit disorder. But he wasn’t shy or uncomfortable around people as his personality might suggest. He was quite bold. He loved burger and fries, added ketchup to everything he ate. He was a huge fan of rock music and actions movies. His family lived a moderate life. Not too rich but definitely well-off. Like Dexter in his laboratory, he had his own Dee-Dee; Justin, his little brother, who always had the tendency to ruin his experiment unintentionally. Let’s just say, he was a teenager in everything but brains.

And like every full blooded teenager, he had a crush. She was a classmate by the name of Lindy Asenn. Lindy Asenn was every teenager’s dream of the prefect date. Those long, long legs and beautiful pair of sea green eyes that drew you like magnets, her smile made the stars seem like a candles, at least that’s what Nathan felt. He could speak boldly at any science conference, argue with the greatest minds in technology, design equipments that could equal anything the military had...and yet, the moment Lindy Asenn walked by, he was reduced to a babbling idiot. His hands would suddenly feel clammy and wet. He would literally break out in cold sweat and feel faint. You should really see how this genius is reduced to a vegetable by a pair of sea green eyes. It was pathetic. The sad thing was that she never seemed to notice he even existed. She was a cheerleader, and he was a nerd. A classic no, no. After several trial and errors in trying to woo her as he put it, (did I mention he was a little old fashioned in his choice of words?), he finally came to a conclusion.

For some reason, he thought he could solve his little problem through, might I dare say it, Science! As every good scientist should, he carefully made hypothesis and observations as well as taking down notes from his female friends opinions on what makes women tick. He figured that all girls were almost alike in their preference of guys they would likely date. Tall, dark and handsome rated highest on his list. So...if he could change himself to be more dark and mysterious, perhaps he would have a chance with Lindy. But he had to have the aura. He had to become it not just act like it. A total personality change overnight. Impossible you say?

Not when you’re a genius.

And that was how he ruined my life.
