Hey guys!

I feel myself wanting to defend Rex again, so just wanted to say I did warn everyone in the description of the book that this story has possessive controlling men--no where near as much as the OG but still. Readers came into this book fully knowing that. And Rex has his own issues too, guys. Rose can't control hers, he can't control his. Just keep that in mind please when hating on my baby.

Anyways! Sorry for any grammar and editing mistakes!

Enjoy!

Chapter 42

    Rose

I frowned at the bright blond head of hair reflecting the light of the afternoon sun as its owner sat on my porch's steps, his head bowed in his hands. I had spent the whole day with Trey and the twins, except when Trey disappeared for a while to take a call, and it was late by the time they all took me home.

I sure as h-e-double-hockey sticks wasn't expecting Jax to be sitting on my steps. And it looked like he had been there for a while.

"Hey! It's that blond kid from Rex's match!" Denton's head immediately popped up at my side as he shoved his large athletic body between the driver's and passenger seat. He sounded way too excited for his own good. "You think he'll admit if that color's real or not?"

"It's real." I heard myself say before I hopped quickly out of the car. Jax's head lifted out of his hands when we pulled into the driveway, and the small smile on his lips disappeared when Trey cut the engine to the SUV. I wasn't sure what I expected the boys to do, but I wouldn't let them hurt him if that's what they were thinking.

"Hey Bae." Jax's voice was gentle enough, but his bright blue eyes were hard as they flickered towards the three guys following me.

"Hey Jax, what are you doing here?"

He shifted uneasily on the steps before standing slowly to his feet, his back cracking as he did. I guess he had been there for a while. "I kept calling, but you weren't answering your phone." Those bright eyes flickered uneasily to the wall of testosterone at my back. "I got worried."

Those dark vicious thoughts from before started to circle in the back of my skull, and I couldn't keep my mouth shut for long. "I thought you didn't want me around anymore." That blue gaze snapped down to mine and narrowed.

"That's not true Rosalyn and you know it."

"Who are you?" Denton pipped up from behind me, and for once Brett didn't slap him on the back of the head. Jax's gaze flickered to the boys, but that hard look on his face didn't ease.

"I'm her brother. Who the fuck are you?"

"Alright, enough, go inside." I stepped quickly onto the bottom step and pushed lightly on Jax's chest until he finally turned around. He didn't cuss a lot since I didn't like it. So, when he did let a word slip, I knew what came next was not going to be fun.

"Thanks for today guys!" I called over my shoulder as I kept pushing on Jax's back until he started up the steps. "I had a lot of fun! I'll see you guys tomorrow!"

"Wait, Rose, I don't think you should—" Trey started behind me, and I could hear the worried uncertainty in his tone, but I refused to turn around and acknowledge it.
