Summer Time

Getting her luggage from baggage claim. Mia and her mom walked to the front of the airport. Mia looked around at the new people. They dressed differently than everyone else in Washington. She had her walk man in her right hand with her headphones around her neck.

"Okay baby we just got to find Aunt Jackie." Mia's mom said rolling Mia's other suitcase. Mia rolled her eyes while her mom wasn't watching. She didn't want to be here at all. She could've been back home with her friends Katie and Tiffany having the best summer ever. But no she was in Charlotte instead.

It was only because her parents were having a divorce. It wasn't a surprise they were always arguing.

"There they go" her mom said making  Mia put her attention on her cousin and aunt.

"Sheilaaaa" her aunt said happy giving her mom a hug.

Mia just stood there awkwardly as her and her cousin looked at one another. They haven't seen each other since they were kids.

"Come on girls we've got to get you back to the house and get you set up" her aunt smiled at her. "You've gotten so big girl!" Aunt Jackie said once more. She was a pretty lady. She had her hair silk pressed and feathered. Her skin was a dark caramel with three moles under her eye. Mia smiled at her sweetly as they began to walk out of the airport.

The sun shined harshly making Mia squint her eyes as she placed her hand over her eyes to block the sun. It was humid outside making Mia instantly get hot. Her cousin laughed at her.

"You scared of a little sun huh?"she asked laughing a bit.

Mia just lightly laughed as she shook her head.

Mia watched the trees and grass pass by in the window as the car drove to her aunt's house.

It was actually beautiful she thought looking out toward the lake she saw.

"MIA!" , her mom snapped

She looked over taking her head phones off.

"Get up and get out" she said sternly.

"Nessa baby show your cousin to y'all room", Aunt Jackie stated as her and Mia's mom headed in the house.

Nessa got one of Mia's bags and began to roll it to the house.

Cleaning supplies danced in the air as well as soul food.

Mia followed behind Nessa while she showed her to the room.

"Okay Mia,it is Mia right?"

"Yeah, it's Nessa right?",Mia asked.

"It's actually Vanessa but Nessa is fine" she answered.

"This is my bed and this is your bed and that is your drawer"she stated to the twin sized beds.

Mia places her bag on the bed and sat down. It was a awkward silence in the room. See they haven't saw each other in years. They knew of each other though. But they rarely talked over the years.

"You know,when we were little you put gum in my hair?" Vanessa said making small talk.

Mia's eyes darted to Nessa's.

"Oh that was you"she said with a grin.  She remembered doing that to a little girl when she was little.

"Yeah that was me and Moma had to cut it out thanks to you", she said rolling her eyes playfully.
