This is a question i find myself constantly asking. how do i know that i love? what are the characteristics? well this is what i think.
1) love is a feeling that is unique to all of us. what i mean by that isnt, "oh i love so you can't." but rather that its effects are unique to all of us. some are stricken by love at first sight, others have to wait to have that which they love taken away to truly realize they love it, (ex: you dont know what you have till its gone.)
2) There are many types of love: friend love, love love, family love, ect. and i also think it is important to understand just what love we have for that person, because i dont know about you but i dont want a girl to say "i love you, as a brother". i mean come on, thats low.
3) i do NOT believe you can LOVE love more than one person at the same time. really? what you tell one person "you have my heart" and tell the other person the same thing. im not sure about you, but i know for me that i only have ONE heart. so who has it?
4) true love means you would do anything for that person, no matter what consequence befalls you. we all know those people who say "i love you so much!" but then when it comes time to actually put the money where their mouth is they dont size up. true love, in my opinion, is when your SO asks you to do something and you do it. plain and simple. you go OUT of your way to make them happy. for example, i once rode 30 miles to get my (then) girlfriend a sweatshirt of a band i didnt even like. and it cost me 58 dollars! but why? because i loved her, and if me getting her that sweatshirt was gunna make her happy, by God ill get it for her.
