Chasing Rainbows
"Nagdadalang tao ako sa anak namin ni Elior..."
Matiim kong tiningnan ang babaeng nasa harapan ko. I leaned my back to the chair I'm sitting and crossed my arms. She's ruining my date to myself. This insignificant creature.
"So, you had sex with my boyfriend?" My brows arched.
"Yes—"
"When?"
"Every time you're—"
"Really? Masarap ba?"
"Yes, he made me feel so special so you better break—" I raised my index finger, signaling her to pause.
She looks pissed at me cutting her off but meh, I won't bother listening to her. Instead, I fetch my phone in my bag and dial a number.
"Will you listen to me—!" I glance a warning look, making her stop midway with her words.
When that person answered, "Hey baby, watcha' doin'?" I cheerfully asked.
"On my way," he replied monotonously as ever. Oh yeah, susunduin nga niya pala ako.
"Really?" I raised my cheerfulness to another level when I said this word. "Malapit ka na ba?"
"More or less 5 minutes. Why?"
"You know that I'm waiting here at a café, right?"
"You're on your favorite café, right? Why?"
"You see baby," I glance the woman again. Well, for a pregnant woman, she really looks haggard and old for her actual age. Kataka-takang pinatulan ito ni Elior if ever. "Your bestfriend—"
"I don't have any." He cut me off, sounded weirded by my choice of word.
"Yeah, whatever." I rolled my eyes, as if he can see me. "Remember Glenda?" I heed an attention again to the woman. "You're Glenda, right?" I asked her.
"Yes—" I paused her again with a hand gesture. She doesn't deserve to finish her sentences. That's why.
"Who's Glenda? You know what, what happened there, Anala?"
"Well..." I sheepishly said, prolonging the words, "she said she's pregnant."
"So?" I hide my laugh into a tight smile then glance at the woman.
She looks like she's running out of patience, staring at me, begging for my attention. Not my fault. This day should've been fun for me because I'm treating myself out, but she showed up and I don't want to be the one leaving this establishment with a sour mood.
"She said it's yours." Nagningning naman ang mga mata ng babae sa narinig mula sa'kin.
"What?! I didn't even know that woman! You've gotta be kidding me, Anala! Don't believe that—!"
"OMG babe, you're not a virgin anymore?" I sounded shock as I whisper it to him on the phone.
I heard a sudden break he did on the car. Ako pa yata ang magiging dahilan kung bakit maaaksidente siya. "What on earth, Anala?!"
That's when I lose my strength in masking my laughter with a remote tone. I burst it all out. "But baby, she said it's yours! What should we do about it? Should we break-up?" Natatawang ani ko.
I bet my entire face is red as I burst into laughter. Iba pa naman ako kapag natawa, I sounded like a crying walrus, a beautiful one. Some people mistaken my laughter as an outburst of sorrow, and I think this woman in front of me is one of those some people. A stupid one.
