The bell rang, which signaled free period for half of the seniors. The other half had it next period. Luckily, Violet, Daichi, and Ebony all had it together.
They usually met in the library. Violet and Daichi walked together to find Ebony sitting at their usual table.
"Hi, Violet," smiled the librarian Ms. Nguyen. She was young, only 27, and Violet thought she was really nice. Ms. Nguyen loved Violet's love for literature and saw a lot of herself in her.
"Hi, Ms. Nguyen," Violet replied smiling, "did they come in yet?"
"Tomorrow I think," she laughed, "Eager are you?"
"Very," Violet smiled. She was waiting on a new shipment of books that the school library was getting. She loved looking through them. Ms. Nguyen basically gave her first dibs.
They parted ways and Violet and Daichi sat down.
"Do you guys have a partner for the history project?" Violet asked her friends.
"Yeah, Ebony and I are partners," Daichi said quietly, knowing that these things happen since they are an odd number, "ごめんね, Vi." (Sorry)
"It's okay," Violet huffed and slumped down in her chair.
"Maybe Josie doesn't have a partner yet, you should ask her," Ebony piped up from behind her notes.
"Yeah, good idea," Violet nodded. Josie was a quiet but nice girl that they all liked fairly well. She was smart and got along with most people. "I think I'll get a head start," she got up and walked to the history section. Their project could be about anything historical subject that interested them, the only exception was that it had to be about World History not American History. Violet had several ideas in mind. She just hoped her partner, whether that would be Josie or not, would like her ideas.
She started scanning the titles on the shelves. Running her hand along the spines.
"Oops, sorry," she muttered. She had grabbed a book at the same time someone else. Their red nails seemed familiar.
A chuckle escaped the person next to her. "It's fine, take it." Casey smiled. Wow, perfect ass teeth too, Violet thought.
"Do you happen to take World History with Mr. Lloyd too?" Violet asked.
Casey nodded. Flattening their skirt down.
"Oh, um...," Violet started, "do you happen to have a partner yet?"
Casey smiled, "are you asking to be mine?"
"Oh, u-uhh," she stuttered, "if you want to, that is."
"Sure," they smiled.
"Cool, cool, cool," Violet stammered on. She hoped she wasn't looking stupid.
Casey laughed, running their fingers through their hair. "Did you have any ideas?"
Violet held up the book she had in her hand it was about India. "Well I really enjoy Bollywood movies and Indian culture so I wanted to explore that. But then I was thinking Japan because I plan on visiting Daichi after we graduate when he goes back to Japan. But Mexico is really cool too. But I was always obsessed with the Romanov's when I was growing up so maybe Russia." She rushed out all in one breath.
"Wow, those are all really cool." Casey smiled. "We can look into each one a little bit then decide what would make the best project?" Casey offered.
Violet smiled and sighed in relief, "I'm glad you like those ideas." In a bout of confidence Violet chirped up, "do you think I could get your number so we can plan when to work on it?"
Casey smiled but stuck their hand out, waiting for Violet's phone.
They typed their number in and handed it back. With a wink, Casey was off.
Violet looked down at her phone and seen Casey had texted themself. With their name saved as PrincessCase🥀.Currently learning Japanese! Are you guys learning another language? If so, which one?😊
