The sound of cars vrooming outside mixed with honking of horns was a stressful scene to view. The clacking of keyboards resonating within the building as everyone rushes to write their business reports.
"Hey, let's go. The guys are gonna leave without us if we don't pick up the pace," one of my coworkers is trying to hurry up to go and grab lunch. The two of us are rushing to get in our final report for a business proposal we need to have in by next week.
As I rushed to finish my sentence I see her walking in. Beautiful, long, and wavy brown hair with adorable blue eyes. Her name is Corryn. And she's the love of my life. She just doesn't know it yet. She's the gem of our department and every guy is head over heels crazy in love with her.
"Hi Ciel! How are you doing today?" She called gleefully with her blinding smile as I felt my heart leap into my throat.
"I-I'm doing quite alright," I felt my cheeks heat up to the stutter in my voice and cleared my throat. "How about yourself Ryn?"
"Oh I'm doing quite fine. Have you finished working on the report?"
"Not quite. It's a slow process but it's coming along fine. How about you? How far are you on the report?"
"I'm pretty far. Although, I'm having trouble trying to summarize everything,"
We talk like this for a good minute until another of our coworkers comes along, saying that the cafeteria is closing soon.
"Hey Ryn, do you want to grab lunch together?" I ask with a hopeful tone.
"I'm so sorry, but Dave said he needed my help with his report and I offered to help him during lunch. Can you take a rain check?"
Dave. Another guy who fell for Ryn and her beauty. I wonder what his true intentions are. He's never asked anyone for help, no matter what the project is. He's a hard worker and is always diligent. Ever since Ryn came into the office about 6 months ago, every guy will rush to be by her side. I've been the only person who's managed to get close to her. And I'd like to keep it that way.
"Go ahead. We can always go and grab dinner later, okay?"
She nods in agreement and then rushes out the door. I decided to get back to work. It's so quiet when no one is around. It's terrible. I get very paranoid when I'm alone in the office like this. It's almost as if someone can hear my thoughts if I'm not careful. Besides, I have very special plans I need to arrange before tonight.

The day passes on as normal, but when Ryn came back to the office, she seemed distraught. It was almost as if she'd seen something she wasn't supposed to, and regretted it. I decided to go walk over to her and ask how her lunch plans went, seeing as, no matter what the answer, Dave's fate is already set.
"Hey Ryn. How did lunch go?" She hesitated before responding, it seemed like she didn't want to.
"Oh that...well, it sure went somewhere. It was okay. How was your lunch?"
"It was fine. I'm about ready to head out for the night. Would like to come with me? I can walk you home. Maybe grab a bite on the way home?"
"Uhm," she stopped a bit, thinking about how she should respond, "I'm so sorry but, would it be okay if I just went home alone tonight?"
"No, I don't mind. We can always grab food another time. Is everything okay?"
"Yes!" She shouted her words, like she was in danger. It was worrying, "Sorry. I guess I'm just a little on edge at the moment. Take a rain check?"
I nodded lightly and decided to just leave the matter alone. I walked out of the office, before leaving, I check back and make sure she's okay. She was on the verge of tears. Something happened, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it. I headed out of the office and saw Dave just chilling outside, looking proud of himself, but he also appeared to be in a bad mood. I decided to first gain his trust, and then, the snowball will start to roll.
"Hey Dave! How have you been lately? I didn't see you around the office this afternoon. Where were you?"
"Oh, its you. I was out with the lovely Miss Corryn. She helped me with my report because of how much trouble I was having. What about you?"
"Oh you know, I've been doing quite alright. Want to go catch up over a couple of drinks?" I just need to get him alone. Getting him intoxicated is just another bonus.
"Ah, sorry man, I've got some plans tonight. Maybe another time?"
"Oh no worries! Would like me to escort you home?"
"Sure, why not," the man replied, unaware of the events that were about to unravel. The two walked along the sidewalk, cars being stuck in traffic. People were honking their horns, some angrily yelling within their cars. The street lights burn with a sense of warmth and calmness. The city was busy yet, the sidewalks seemed to be very empty. The tall buildings are looming over the streets, with a scattered lights shining within them. The walk was silent, and still. The two of us didn't utter a single word, just walked together in each other's silence. It took a few minutes but we eventually reached Dave's apartment. I walked him up to his apartment and we said our goodbyes.
