The family were happy for a few years until Maya's mother left, leaving Mr Lee alone with Maya and Jae. Eventually he remarried to his second wife, Maya and Jae's step-mother. Maya grew to despise her father and step-mother due to their favouritism of Jae and leaving her out, turning her brother against her.
