Riptide

Fleeting moments of happiness, safety, contentment.
Crashing like waves on the sands of her heart. Eroding the lines and faults of her past, washing it anew. Hiding her away from herself, her mind.

It had been months since she'd last heard from him. They were so both so busy with work and life, there had been no time to make anything of their own.

She deleted the last texts and pics he'd sent her.

With a sudden rush of excitement, her mind floated away to the new guy in her life. No more what if...., only what now..... This was different from what she had been recently used to in the love department.

Delicate. Whispers and soft touches, matched with shy glimpses and stolen glances-sometimes getting caught and laughing quietly or smiling it off nervously.

HE was fading into the background. Even her pen refused to write him into her journal.

HIS eyes were a soft brown and his taste for the color blue played well off of it. He was an out-of-the-box thinker and she was game to take his hand, as they ventured bravely together in this scary new world.  He was light, refreshing, a breath of fresh air in a dark world, juxtaposed to her recent fall for the tall dark and handsome.  He was easy, no pressure, sweet, flirty, and yet oh soooo mysterious. An open book, like her, she thought but full of sweet surprises with every page turn.  From the beginning, they filled the blank pages , writing themselves as main characters into each others lives.

"What is happening?," she said quietly to herself. Her mind was in a race with her heart, with a clarity that thrilled her.

She turned around to find him waiting there, just staring at her as he leaned against the car door.

"I like having fun with you. I had a good time," he said as he leaned in for a goodnight kiss.

Frozen like a deer in headlights, she let him give her a peck on the lips. Then she nervously said, "Me too."  She turned around to buckle her seatbelt-just to escape their eye locking gaze.

As her driver sped home, her heart skipped in pace, she put her fingers to her lips verifying she had just been kissed. Her fluttering heart was draining all blood from her brain, she was taken quite a back. Lovestruck, dumbstruck, drowning in the riptide of it all, she began to lose herself again in the sea of love.

She quickly dialed her best friend, reaching for her life ring. As she waved goodbye to the driver and retold the story the night to her friend, all that kept replaying in her head was that perfect moment. When the golden glow of the setting sun caught itself in his eyes, just as their eyes met, holding each other without even touching.

She shut the door as if to lock herself away from her crazy thoughts which were spinning in her brain.

Into the depths she went, recapping on the electricity of brushing hands on their evening stroll.
His soft, quiet, and candid nature calmed her-making her feel secure and insecure all at once.

She couldn't escape.

He was her escape, her refuge.

Thoughts of him going in and out like waves, as she readied herself for bed.

The gossip was all over the web.
His trysts were fun, pissing off his management.
Still getting him attention nonetheless.

He was working non-stop.
