Have you ever had a day that starts out flawlessly and ends up an utter disaster? I didn't know I was having one of those days as I walked home from school that brisk November afternoon. I didn't know that the best day of my life was about to be ruined and that my life was about to change.

Waking up on a Monday morning, I had stretched happily, taken a long, luxurious shower, and washed my ginger brown hair. Wearing my favourite shirt & skirt, working on my make-up and lastly putting on my new boots that gave me the extra height I needed. I’m only five feet six inches, and I need to grow at least another inch if I’m ever going to make it as a model.

I had set out to school a little early it was nice out so I decided to walk the long way. Hearing a loud honk I turned it was Bruce Sanders in his red English sports car, and he wanted to give me a lift.

What you've got to know about Bruce Sanders is that he's the most popular guy at school. His blonde hair flops back across his forehead in the cuttest way. He'd been dating Jannet Patterson for years until they broke up a few weeks before. Everyone was wondering who he'd ask out next.

I knew Bruce because we had been lab partners in biology. We'd do expirements together like cut up worms though Bruce did all the cutting. He made biology bearable and we laughed a lot ever since then I had really liked him a lot.

“I’m glad I caught up with you, Trinity. I was wondering if you’ve already got a date for the winter formal.”

Bruce was asking me to the dance I couldn’t believe it. “Well, if you’re inviting, I’m accepting.”

“Cool,” he said,” Shall we seal it with a kiss?” Bruce leaned over slowly, took my chin in his hand, and gave me a gentle kiss.

Of course it never crossed my mind that he'd ever ask me out. I'm nowhere near popular I figured he'd asked Margaret Laird. She was always in the center of things. I walked around all morning with a silly grin on my face. I didnt even feel like telling anyone that I was the lucky one Bruce had asked. I wanted to enjoy my secret alone for the day and tell the others later.

I walked home that day, hoping I could persuade my mom to buy me a new dress for the dance.

How lucky can you get? I asked myself. Just three years ago you were petrified moving from California to New York after the divorce. Now, you've not only survived a new highschool on the other side of the country, but you've become part of the top crowd and gotten Bruce Sanders to ask you out to the dance. What more could a girl want--a modeling contract perhaps!

Walking down the street I noticed the stores were putting up Christmas displays. Seeing the windows made me wonder what the holidays at our house would be like that year. Mom was never exactly the celebrating type. She was more organized and like to keep things neat, Christmas decoratiosn with big frilly ribbons and bits of wrapping paper wasnt what she wanted at all. We'd probably go to a resturant for both Thanksgiving and Christmas again. Her boyfriend Felix would give me something childish like a big doll. He didnt understand much about teenagers.

I pushed those unpleasent thoughts away nothing could ruin my day!

"Is that you darling?" Mom called.

Opening the living room door my mom was on the white sofa she smiled up, "Look, Felix is here."

Ugh he was near the fireplace purched up on the chrome chair wearing his usual blue turtleneck and his bald spot was showing through his hair.

Is this suppose to be a lovely suprise finding him here? I thought.
