***********

“So how was day one?” Anya’s heavy French accent sang from behind him.

Oliver had just pulled open his car door. “It was…fine,” he said in response, throwing his backpack into the passenger seat. “I just thank my lucky stars that I only have one class to teach. I think I’ll drown my sorrows in a whisky now.”

“Don’t be so antisocial. The staff room has the best coffee,” Anya said, leaning against his Renault.

Oliver bit his bottom lip. “Tempting…but –”

“But nothing, Oliver.” She reached out and touched his arm. Lightly. But it sent a shock of anticipation through Oliver’s body. “It’s still pretty early, don’t you think?”

“Yeah. It is,” Oliver found himself agreeing. What am I doing? I’m supposed to be looking for Lilith.

“Come with me…” Anya whispered in his ear, pressing herself against him.

At the back of his mind, Oliver didn’t understand the sudden urge – no, need – to follow her. It was inexplicable when he tried to analyse it. He didn’t really know Anya LaGrange but there she was, practically throwing herself at him and leading him to sin on academic ground.

Oliver knew exactly where the staff room was and so he knew perfectly well that that was not where Anya was taking him. They passed the office block and crossed the large, evergreen expanse of football field. Anya kept Oliver’s hand in hers, making it impossible for him to stop and think for a second.

But her grip isn’t even that tight, Oliver told himself, staring at the back of Anya’s head. He felt a sudden swell of desire surge up his body and he knew that if this woman asked him to eat a rattlesnake, he’d ask for some condiments and oblige her.

The idea boggled him.

“This is where I caught Tracy Poole and Eric Manser doing their extra-curricular activities two months ago,” Anya was saying, shoving him onto an abandoned plastic chair hidden behind the bleachers. “Very gripping stuff.”

“What do you want?”

Anya placed her hands on his chest and straddled him. “You must know that you are a very attractive man, Oliver Hill,” she said huskily, her mouth suddenly on his neck. “Or are you completely oblivious?”

Oliver felt strange. His nerve endings had become quivering masses of nothingness.

“Did you slip me something?” he asked weakly, wondering how it had happened.

“Ssssh,” she soothed, and she pressed her lips against his.

At first, Oliver felt his head become fuzzy. If someone had asked him his name right then, he would have had to think about it. The fuzzy feeling left and he was taken over by ecstasy. It swallowed his body whole and made his heart race. Anya had her tongue down his throat, exploring his mouth like an older Dora without a map. Oliver looped his arms around her waist and she around his neck.

And then it hit him.

His arms fell to his side and his neck lolled back as Anya became more ferocious. She gripped the side of his head and kissed the life out of him.

Literally.

Oliver was found unconscious by a group of cheerleaders heading for practice.

It looked like he was dreaming. The smile on his face told them that it definitely wasn’t a nightmare.
