Kageyama Tobio had been having a bad day. He woke up late, he forgot to eat breakfast, and he had a test he was totally unprepared for. To top it off, the day before Karasuno had a match with Aoba Johsai, which meant that Kageyama had to deal with Oikawa for much longer than he wanted. The team was able to pull through and win, in large part because of Hinata Shōyō.

The only thing he had to look forward to that day was volleyball practice. That was what he told himself. He would be able to let off some steam while practicing, and he would be able to improve for their next game. That was why he was looking forward to it. He definitely wasn't looking forward to it because of Hinata Shōyō.

Practice itself wasn't that exciting that day. Most of his time was spent practicing the freak quick with Hinata. The freak quick was something they did often enough, but for some reason Kageyama always looked forward to it. He could never figure out why. He refused to believe it was because of Hinata Shōyō.

That night he wasn't able to go to sleep. Something was keeping him awake, and he didn't know what. He couldn't help but think of what happened at practice. The look on Hinata's face every time he hit the freak quick. Kageyama shook his head. He wouldn't let his sleep be interrupted because of Hinata Shōyō.

The next morning Kageyama was tired. He hadn't gotten much sleep, but he tried his best to stay awake. If he was too sluggish, he wouldn't be able to complete his normal routine. Which included racing Hinata to school. But, he told himself, the reason he wanted to stay awake was not because of Hinata Shōyō.

Kageyama almost fell asleep in his first period class. His mind kept wandering, making it impossible to focus. He almost completely tuned out the teacher's talking. His thoughts quickly turned back to Hinata. The short boy's smile was stuck in his head. He tried his best to think of something else. None of his feelings would change because of Hinata Shōyō.

At practice that evening, Kageyama found his tosses were slightly less accurate than usual. It was such a small difference that most people wouldn't be able to notice, but he did. As much as he tried to ignore it, he knew why. Moving forward, he would not let himself get distracted because of Hinata Shōyō.

Almost a week had gone by before his mind was once again taken over by Hinata, this time while he was working on homework. Hinata had finally gotten in the lead for races won the other day, and the way he smiled and jumped for joy seemed to be burned into Kageyama's mind. The difference this time was that Kageyama couldn't stop thinking about him. Trying to continue his math work, he told himself that he could no longer let his life be affected because of Hinata Shōyō.

The next time the team got together, Kageyama couldn't help but keep his eye on Hinata. He was filled to the brim with energy despite having just practiced for over an hour. Kageyama watched as Hinata bounced across the room, talking from person to person. He only stopped to give Kageyama a confused look when he caught him staring, at which Kageyama quickly looked away. He would not get flustered because of Hinata Shōyō.

Ignoring the weird feeling he was having was getting harder. Whenever he had a class with Hinata, Kageyama would find himself idly looking at him. Most of the time he'd been staring he hadn't noticed he was doing it. The weird feeling would show up whenever he noticed what he was doing. He decided to do his best to stop whatever was happening. He decided he was not going to keep feeling weird because of Hinata Shōyō.

Eventually, Kageyama looked up what was happening. The strange feeling was there all the time, and to be entirely honest it was starting to bother him. The results were not what he expected. They were wrong. That's what he decided. He was not catching feelings because of Hinata Shōyō.

He started acting colder. He figured that if he pushed Hinata away, the feeling would go away with him. Unfortunately, that didn't work. The feelings stayed, and the only thing it did was make Hinata upset. For some reason, it bothered Kageyama more to see Hinata upset than to feel that weird feeling. Kageyama felt bad because of Hinata Shōyō.

The next day, he asked to talk to Hinata outside after practice. Struggling to find the right words, he stumbled through an apology. When Hinata realized what was happening, he laughed. Kageyama didn't know how to feel, and he stuttered out a few words before Hinata told him that it was fine. He didn't need to apologize, but that he was forgiven anyways. Kageyama felt a mess of emotions that day because of Hinata Shōyō.

Kageyama noticed that after his apology, Hinata had been acting weird around him. He stumbled over his words, he would look at him when he thought he wouldn't notice, he would blush slightly when talking to him, and he would get hit in the face with the volleyball much more often. Kageyama looked that up too, and again thought the results were wrong. He was in denial because of Hinata Shōyō.

When Hinata asked to talk to him after practice, Kageyama wasn't sure what he thought would happen. He definitely didn't expect a confession. For a minute, he didn't know what to say. He could tell that Hinata thought he was rejecting him, but he couldn't bring himself to say anything. Everything he had been denying had been true, and he didn't know how to react. He struggled to come up with what to do, what to say. He never thought this would happen. When Hinata started to walk away, tears in his eyes, Kageyama did the first thing he thought of. He grabbed his wrist, turned him around, and told him he loved him too.

He was in love, all because of Hinata Shōyō.
