The shell of the cat demon was curled up in the cramped room, his body was adorned with bruises, most violet and of unnatural colours. There were some cuts on his wings and cheek, blood was gushing from some particularly gruesome wounds. His eyes were shut in a grimace, his normal scowl reduced to a pained smile.

I was silent. I kneeled down to his level, placing my hand on his uninjured cheek; gingerly petting the fur with utmost care. He grumbled, opening his eyes to my concerned face.

'Y/N..' His eyes lit up at my presence.

'Shhh.'

Husk promptly fell silent and let me examine his wounds as my unoccupied hand held his limp hand. He followed my gaze and shifted about slightly, showing the discomfort he was in.

'Okay, lets see if we can get you out of here.'

Carefully, I wrapped his right arm around my shoulder to strengthen his current state, his shallow breathing tickling my ear. I heaved forwards, trying to move cautiously as to not harm him.

As soon as I opened the door for us, Charlie, Vaggie and Niffty burst into the room. Niffty was frantic, buzzing around Husk with worry, Charlie constantly asking me what happened. Vaggie and I exchanged looks, her lips were pressed into a thin line, she knew this had something to do with Alastor from our previous encounter that she interrupted.

'What happened, Y/N?' I snapped back to reality as Charlie was still quizzing me on the events.

I opened my mouth to express the burden, my eyes mulling over the cracks in the wall while I formulated my answer. From the damaged plaster, something caught my eye, there was a black miasma seeping through the wall. As it continued to take form, I realised there was the faint outline of a face, the silhouette of a familiar demon. Its mouth became warped into a horrifically large smile, the shadow mouthed to me,

'Don't tell her.'

It glimpsed at Husk who was leaning on me, giving an all knowing smile to me.

'Y/N?' Charlie queried again, looking at me oddly. I glanced back up at the shadow, but it was already gone.

'I, I... it doesn't matter. Let's just help Husk to his room.'

Charlie gave me a quizzical look as if she didn't quite believe me and she continued the task of assisting Husk silently. She gave me a small nod, taking his other arm and wrapping it around her own shoulder. Vaggie performed the task of opening the doors that got in our way, Niffty rushing around the hotel, presumably attempting to find particular things that would make Husk more comfortable in bed while recovering.

Vaggie fished the keys out of some camouflaged pocket in Husk's fur and unlocked his hotel room. It was the first time I was in his room, it seemed like any other room but there were various booze bottles littered on the floor.

Charlie and I placed Husk onto the bed, careful to not catch any of his injuries on the bed frame. I pulled the covers up over him in a rather motherly fashion, tucking it around him where necessary. He groaned slightly with the movement as he smoothed the duvet down with the palms of his paws.

Husk managed a quiet 'thanks,' when the surreal atmosphere was broken with a very energetic demon's presence. Niffty placed a glass of water by his bedside to parch his throat and a few neatly cut sandwiches. She scuttled about, picking up the bottles that were strewn across the room, then putting a rather decrepit first aid kit on the neighbouring shelf.

Everyone dispersed at once, wishing Husk fast recovery and alike clauses, soon it was only the cat demon and I. Sighing quietly, I glanced over at him, my expression softening instantly at his smile. He wore a small grin, the edges of his lips curled up slightly. Although his eyes were clouded with the pain he was in, he still managed to smile.

As long as he's smiling, I could help but smile too.

'What are you smiling about, kitty?' I questioned, resting my head on the bed frame.

'That you're safe.'

At that moment, I felt tears brim the edges of my eyes once again, threatening to start spilling down my face. I sniffed softly, containing the tears as I averted my eyes to an insignificant carving in the wooden frame. Reaching for the first aid kit, I began soothing and bandaging his wounds.

'Don't worry about me, look where that got you,' I gestured to his current state, 'but you got hurt because of me. I'm sorry.'

'You don't need to be sorry, I would happily get hurt for you any day, Y/N.' He offered me a warm smile.

'Husk..' I whispered, barely loud enough for him to hear as I tended to his injuries, wrapping his wing in bandages and cleansing his cuts. Comfortable silence fell upon us, him stirred occasionally from the pain of the disinfectant while I held his flaccid hand in mine, entwining his claws with my pointed fingers.

Once I patched up everything, I held the glass of water that Niffty brought earlier to his lips, tipping it slightly so the liquid poured perfectly into his open mouth. I watched him struggle maintaining consciousness, his short eyelashes fluttering when he closed his eyes and soft snores emitted from his sleeping figure.

'Goodnight, kitty.' I murmured before I exited the room, closing the door behind me.

'Goodnight, Y/N.'
