(Hermione's pov)

I look over at my boyfriend and my best friend, chatting away to each other. Ron and I have been dating for 2 years now, since year 6. We're now in year 7/8 because we didn't complete last year because of the war. Ron is immersed in his conversation but still has time to look over at me and wave. I give a halfhearted smile back and go back to my book.

It's not that I don't like Ron. Well, I don't really know how I feel about him. I feel like we would be better off as friends maybe, but i'm not sure and I don't want to break up with him. Recently, he's been pressuring me to go to the next level and it isn't helping with my mixed feelings towards him.

I have to go to my arithmancy class now, and neither Ron nor Harry are in it. I'm glad to have a break from them, though I wasn't exactly spending time with them before, either. In arithmancy I sit next to mean and horrible and hot and snotty Pansy Parkinson. Did I just say hot? I didn't mean that. She's a bully. Anyway, the only reason I sit next to her is because our teacher assigned us seats.

"Hey, Granger."

God. Here she is. Probably here to make up another mean nickname. She keeps calling me 'babe' and it's infuriating.

"What do you want, Parkinson."

"Babe! Not happy to see me?" She says with a laugh. She's pretty when she laughs. I roll my eyes and set my books down. Pansy looks me up and down and sets her books down next to mine. She then moves her chair right near me, and sits down. She's so close I'm sure she can hear my heart racing. I don't know why it is, but it is. Very fast. She looks at my flustered expression with contentment and laughs loudly. This attracts the attention of the one and only Draco Malfoy.

"You right, Parkinson? You sound like a witch having a seizure." He laughs at his own joke and then proceeds to look directly at me. "I see, making fun of Granger, are we? I could use some fun."

"Leave it to me, Draco. Get back to your table, you insufferable goat." I hear Pansy say. I'm surprised she would ever talk that way to her boyfriend. She always lets him do everything and never stands up for herself so I have no idea why she's starting now. "Trouble in paradise?" I whisper under my breath. Pansy leans over real close to me and whispers in my ear: "I heard that". My cheeks grow red hot as she leans back away from me.

As we do our work, Pansy starts talking to me. As if we were friends. Don't get me wrong, she was still obnoxious and mean, but it was different to the usual snide comments and silence. It was nice.
"You really should keep your nose in those books, Granger, and out of other people's business. And for your information, me and Draco are fine. Perfect. Amazing." She said all this with a tone that implied the opposite. "We actually have a date this afternoon. Yeah, I know. We hardly ever go on dates but he said he needed a study partner and I'm better than Crabbe so now we're going on a study date! It's at 5 in the library." She then realised that she was not talking to a friend, but in fact an enemy, and she shut up. The rest of the lesson was quiet.

That night was so boring that I kept thinking back to arithmancy with Pansy. I was curious about wether or not her date was going well so I snuck out of my dorm into the library at 5:30 and looked around for the couple. All I saw was Pansy on her own looking around, obviously upset. Draco must have showed her up, that git. I wondered if I should go to her, but then I realised that she was my enemy and that would be strange. I sat and watched her from behind a bookshelf. By 7:20 most of the people in the library had left, but Pansy stayed. I guess she still had hope that Malfoy would show up. I guessed wrong.

"You can come out now, Granger."

She was waiting for everyone to leave so she could get me alone. With fear I hesitantly walked over to her. "I wasn't trying to stalk you, I just, well I umm.."

Pansy rolled her eyes. "I don't really care, Granger. Just get out of here. And mind your business."

I started to head towards the door, but something stopped me. I heard a sniffle. Pansy was crying.

I walked back over to her and she burst into tears. "I told you to get out of here, Granger."

I wasn't having this. "I'm not leaving you like this. Not even you deserve this. Malfoy's a dick."

"It's not about Draco. It's, it's about, well.." Pansy didn't finish because she leaned in and kissed me. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have done that. God i'm an idiot, I'm so sorry, Hermione." She sputtered. "Pansy! You- you like me? You mean all this time you have liked me??" I said, incredulous.

"Well obviously. What are you, an idiot? SORRY I didn't mean that I'm just so used to being mean to you."

"Pansy, I like you, too. I think I do at least. I don't know. Hang on, aren't I with Ron?? God I'm sorry I'm thinking out loud. Whatever, I like you. You made my heart race in class today." I said with a blush.

"No way. No WAY! Hermione bookworm Granger likes a SLYTHERIN GIRL!" With that she gave me another kiss, this time long and passionate. I went back to my dorm that night happy and excited. What I didn't know then was that someone had seen us kiss.

And that someone was Draco Malfoy.
