Beth sat beside a grim silent Mark. The pain searing through her whole being left her feeling numb. It felt like there was a gaping hole where her heart used to be, because it had been ripped out of her chest at the sight of her mate fucking another female! How could her mate do that to her? How could he have sex with someone else?

Even after all her father had did to her over the years, the beatings, the emotional abuse. Even after all that, she had never felt pain and heartache like this. It was the ultimate betrayal. And to have another there to witness her suffering was an added indignity. The fact that Mark had taken such pleasure at seeing her pain and despair was just another level of humiliation.

There had been no attempt at conversation from either of them on the two hour journey to what was to be her new pack. She had only heard of The River Grove pack in passing over the years so she knew absolutely nothing about them. But at this moment she was glad to be going there. She could not stay in Hollow Ridge knowing her mate was with another female. It would slowly kill her and the pain of being rejected would only get worse.

Her hopes and dreams of a family and a mate who loved her and supported her had been obliterated in the space of a few short minutes. Even if she did at some point in the future find someone she could love, there still would be no pups, for only true mates could create life.

Beth was brought out of her dark thoughts with a sharp nudge to her side. She looked over at her Beta, no not her Beta anymore, and realised they were no longer moving.

"We're here!" He snapped impatiently. "Get out and grab your stuff!"

Beth looked around to see a few people standing next to a shabby building. There were two females and a male talking among themselves as they obviously waited for Beth and Mark to get out of his truck. Beth sucked in a breath, opened her door and slowly clambered down from the high seat. Being just over five and a half feet meant it was a long way to the ground and she stumbled as her feet hit the dusty road.

The male began to walk towards them, his eyes running over her slight form in a way that made her immediately uncomfortable. He looked to be somewhere in his late forties and although he wasn't overly tall for an Alpha, probably around the six foot mark, he made up for it with his heavily muscled frame. His dark hair was beginning to grey at the temple and probably he would have been considered a handsome male, if not for his eyes. Those were the eyes of a man who knew cruelty. She had saw those same kind of eyes on her father every day her whole life. Her dislike for her new Alpha was immediate.

He turned his attention to Mark and extended his hand. "Mark? I'm Alpha Gordon Alexander. Good to meet you."

"Good to meet to too Alpha. This is the female you discussed with my Alpha, Beth Stevens." Beth tried to smile but she was quite sure it more resembled a grimace. "Alpha." She said quietly, nodding her head slightly, showing her throat in respect.

Her new Alpha, harrumphed out some kind of greeting and immediately turned back to address Mark. "Would you care for some refreshment before you set back off?" He asked.

"No thank you Alpha, I need to get on my way. As you know Ben has just taken over from the previous Alpha at Hollow Ridge so there is much to do. He has asked me to pass on his thanks for taking this one of his hands. Unfortunately there are still a few trouble makers like this one that still need sorting out, so we are grateful that there is one less to deal with." He said derisively. "I know Ben spoke to you about her crimes so whatever you decide to do with her is up to you. But if you don't mind some advice I would keep her on a shot leash." He snarked.

Beth gasped in hurt outrage. "How dare....."

"Quite female!" Her new Alpha barked. "We don't tolerate your kind of nonsense in this pack. You will speak when spoken too until told otherwise. Now grab your shit and follow my mate. She will show you where you will be staying." He turned back to Mark. "Tell your Alpha thanks for the warning and thank you for your advice but I'm sure we will be able to handle one small female just fine. Don't worry about a thing. Safe journey back."
