Random Access Memory (short for RAM) is a module of the computer designed to store data and transfer data all over the computer, RAM can be also used to make your PC much intelligent, responsive and it can improve multitasking too.
If you don't know what multitasking is, it means if you have a bunch of programs running on your desktop, The less the RAM, the more it will be slow to run more programs.
Theres also a difference in RAM Sticks, as in laptop they're small, as in desktop they're longer in width.

256MB - A small memory storage.
512MB - A small memory storage too, Enough to store alot of your favorite meme pictures!
1 GB - A medium memory storage, Can run 3 basic programs on your desktop.
2 GB - A medium memory storage.
3 GB - A normal memory storage, Mostly equipped in office laptops.
4 GB - A normal memory storage too, Normal desktop computing time!
8 GB - A big storage, Very great for your needs!
12 GB - A huge memory storage, #RepublicOfGamers!
16 GB - A overkill memory storage!
32 GB - A very huge memory storage, Ultra overkill for gaming.
