The school comes into view from the darkness of the morning. As I start pulling into the parking lot I see that I still have an hour left. I'm usually always this early so I don't mind, I've always enjoyed the silence. I turn off the engine and kick my feet up on the dash while playing my favorite playlist. I look out the window of my car and watch the raindrops run down the window. I put my hand to the window slowly tracing the streaks of water as they fall.
A bright light suddenly startled me out of my trance. I look back to see that the first bus has arrived. Taking that as my cue I got out of my car and locked the door as I headed to the entrance. It'll take a few more minutes before school opens but I don't mind waiting. The sound of the rain hitting the concrete greets me as I get to the entrance.
A few minutes later and there are more people at the entrance. They all chat to themselves and friends while waiting. A few more minutes and the doors are opened. I walk inside and go straight to my locker. When I get there I unlock it and pull out the materials I'll need for the next 2 classes. I close my locker and start walking to my first period. Not a single person looks my way nor does anyone talk to me. I like it.
I walk into my class and sit in my seat at the back. No one in the room acknowledges me as people start coming into class. Suddenly a hand puts itself on my shoulder and wraps the rest of the appendage around the back of my head with someone leaning forward. "Hey" they say as I wave back in response. After a moment they move to there seat right next to me. "Crazy weekend" the guy says as I look at him insisting him to continue. "Some hero decided to charge into a burning building right next to my place and rescued a family" he said as my eyes widened slightly to show that I was paying attention. "The real kicker here though is that the family apparently was in despair and started the fire. Now let me tell you, I've never heard someone get yelled at as much as that guy was". I shook my head in a motion signaling that I didn't want to hear anymore. A few minutes later and class started.
