Shiro awoke with a gasp and bolted up. He was in a dark room and felt awful. His leg, arm, and everything else was sore and shooting a stabbing pain through him. Shiro moaned in pain and let himself fall back down. His head rested on a soft and fluffy pillow. He looked around and tried to figure out where he was. As his eyes started adjusting to the dark, he noticed a few things in the room. The first thing he noticed was a strange chair that looked more like a medieval torture device. He shuddered and looked to the other side of the room. Nothing. There was a door and nothing else. He raised an eyebrow and shook his head. Now was not the time to question the emptiness of the room. It was time to think about what he was laying on. It felt nothing like the medical table and it was warm. Shiro looked at his lower torso and legs, which were covered by a thick, white comforter. He hummed to himself as he thought about it.

Across the room, he heard a 'Brrrrrow'. He turned and looked. The door was partially open and a small calico cat walked through the door. It walked over to the bed he was in and jumped up onto it. It meowed at him and walked in a small circle before walking closer to his face and rubbing its face against his chin. It purred and settled into the comforter before closing her eyes. Shiro got his arm out from under the blanket and gently rubbed behind the cat's ear. It purred and leaned into his touch. Shiro smiled softly and moved his hand under its chin.

"How'd you get in here, girl?" He asked quietly.

"How'd you know it was a girl?" A voice from the doorway said. Shiro jumped slightly and scared the calico. She batted at his nose and settled back into the comforter.

"All calico cats are female. I don't understand it, but it was something I remember from my childhood." He replied softly. Allura walked over and rubbed her fingers together. The calico didn't go closer to Allura, she inched closer to Shiro and nuzzled under his chin, by his throat. Allura frowned and walked over to the bed.

"She likes you." She grumbled.

"Cats just kinda do." He replied. Allura nodded.

"I noticed," Allura muttered before walking back over to the door.

"Hunk's making breakfast, it'll be done in about twenty minutes if you want any, but don't be late, there isn't usually anything left after everyone gets their plate." She said as she reached for the doorknob.

"Oh, and by the way, her name is Zanna." She said before leaving the room and closing the door behind her.

"Are you Zanna?" Shiro asked, looking down at the cat. She looked back up at him- her left eye was blue and the right one green, Shiro noted- and meowed. Shiro took that as a yes and was lulled back to sleep by Zanna's purring. He struggled to keep his eyes open and let himself drift into a deep, dreamless sleep.
