Noodle's fur felt warm and silky in the reach of my hands, he vibrated softly as he purred in my lap. My phone sat before me, atop the black covers of my bed. My eyes reflected the desperation that seeped through each text message that Todoroki sent me, they only annoyed me. It stung my heart to think about his betrayal. Between my fits of anger I've been studying all week and felt confident I would be able to ace the exams. My ears perked up at the sound of footsteps that ambled across our front yard. I heard a knock at the door, followed by the sound of my Uncle's loud footsteps to answer the door. With my hearing, I heard everything perfectly.
"What?" Shouta said in a coarse voice.
"Is Amara here? I need to speak to her." The sound of Todoroki's voice made my mouth dry. An anxious tension wrapped itself around me and I felt myself scrunch into a ball.
"Amara is busy studying, and so should you. Go home, Todoroki." My Uncle spat.
"Sir, please—" Todoroki was cut off by the sound of my Uncle slamming the door. Noodle stirred in his sleep from the sound of the thunderous steps of my Uncle walking up the stairs and towards my room.
"Amara," he said sternly.
"Yes?"
He stuck his pale face into my room. "You probably know, but that was Todoroki."
"Yeah," I sighed.
"It's none of my business, but what did he do?" Shouta asked me as he leaned against my doorframe. "Can I expel him?"
"It seems his father asked Todoroki to try and marry me so that it'll make their family stronger. Endeavour seems to think mixing my quirk with Todoroki's is the key to becoming stronger," I explained. I saw Shouta's eyes drift down to Noodle, who went back to sleep.
"I'm no expert, but it really seems like he has genuine feelings for you. Maybe you should talk to him, see his side of the story." My eyes widened; Shouta and I didn't really talk about boys like this.
"How would you know? No offense, you've been single as long as I remember," I said. I saw an emotion pass over Shouta's face, an emotion I couldn't recognize.
"I remember the way your father used to look at your mother, like she carried the world within her," he said solemnly.
"And then they died..." I trailed off. Shouta flung himself off my doorframe as he ignored me.
"Keep studying. I'm going to the school to prepare the exams for tomorrow. Lock the house, don't let anyone in, and don't go anywhere," he lectured me. I rolled my eyes before smiling.
"Yes, yes, yes. Don't worry; I will be fine," I chirped. Shouta disappeared into one of the many rooms of the house. I heard him grab some small objects from his desk before he ambled back down the stairs and left the house. I moved Noodle with my hands onto the bed before I sprang up. Adrenaline kicked in as I slid my window open and jumped down. I hardened my legs in time so that when I landed, I felt no pain. I relaxed my skin and began swiftly making my way to Todoroki's house. I didn't exactly plan on stalking him today, but I had a feeling I needed to check on him. I was angry with him, but sadly, I still cared about him.
I crouched low to the ground when I saw the view of his ginormous house; it was so much bigger than mine. I had no idea what its interior was like, so I crept quietly up to the house fence. I peeked over the giant fence, observing no life inside. My eyes found the gate; my fingers went to open it, and the gate slid open.
It's unlocked? That's odd, I thought to myself as I quietly crept inside his front yard. I bolted to the side of the house and propped myself with my back against the wall. I was under a window that was closed. I had no intentions of entering, only to see if Todoroki was okay. The clouds above me silently crackled in the distance. The foreboding grey clouds slithered over the sky, blocking out any sun.
