"So what did you think Eddy meant when he said I was cute?" my best friend Katie asked as we were walking back to my house after a long and tiring day at school.
Katie and I have been best friends ever since I moved here a few years ago. Because of my dad's job we move often so I have a lot of friends from a lot of places, but never like the friendship that I have with Katie. When I first met Katie I automatically knew that I wanted to be her friend. She was a jumpy and spunky blonde who definitely wasn't in the category of blondes that are stupid. The second that she said hi to me I automatically knew that even if I moved again we would still be friends. She's been there for me in every bad situation that has happened, and in exchange I have given her my words of wisdom when it comes to boys. Well, at least the words of wisdom that I knew from my past catastrophic experiences. This is exactly what I was doing now. Well, almost what I was doing now.
"I don't know" I said, "maybe he just thought you were cute and wanted to tell you."
"Yeah. But what do you think it means? Like does it mean he likes me as a friend or does he like me more than a friend?"
Katie's been obsessing over the same stupid thing for weeks now, and won't shut up about it. Her best guy friend, Eddy, was one of the hottest and cutest guys in school. He was six foot two and was all lean and hard muscle. He has dirty blonde hair that looked like it almost glowed in the sunlight. He also had the butt of a god and it was to die for. He was also the school quarterback. The ironic thing though was that even though every girl wanted him, he's never dated anyone at the school. He's never even kissed a girl before. I found this completely suspicious and I was skeptical about the reasons but I still needed more facts before I knew for sure.
"I mean you're his closest girlfriend Katie. Shouldn't you know what it means?" her response was throwing her hands up in exasperation.
"You know perfectly well why im asking you about this. I mean, you're basically the best person in the whole school to give out guy advice."
"Okay. You know what? Just because I've been friends with a lot of guys and I have now basically memorized "The tells" and rules of guys does not mean I have any idea what Eddy's thinking. Plus, if my parents found out I know so much guy stuff-"
"You'll probably be grounded for the rest of your life and blah blah blah. I know all of this already. You know that."
"I know. I know. Love you." I said as I blew her a kiss and started skipping along the sidewalk to make the walk home go by faster.
"Love you too, girl", she said as she started skipping along with me and blew me a kiss at the same time. "But back to my problem. What am I supposed to do about this? Should I just like act cool with him now or should I be like 'You know what Eddy? I need to know how you feel about me so can you tell me?' or is that too straightforward..." Katie kept on going on like this for I don't know how long. All the while my mind starting wandering to Eddy's best friend Ethan. The dreamy amazing drool worthy Ethan with his amazing body and lips so full I wish I could just kiss the life out of them. And then everything else...
"Ally? Are you even listening to me right now?"
"What? Oh. Im sorry. Yeah listening. You were saying a bunch of questions." I said as I started slowing down. I hated lying to Katie but she couldn't know that I was thinking about Ethan again. Every time she finds out I was thinking about him she starts making fun of me.
"You were in Ethan lala land again weren't you?" she said as she stopped, turned around, and put her hand on her hip.
That's not a good sign. Im definitely in trouble now. It's never a good thing when the hand migrates to the hip.
"What? Psh. Nooo....." I started to walk a little faster hoping that maybe she would forget about it because I moved at a faster pace.
But boy was I wrong about that.
"Look, I know you've liked Ethan ever since you moved here but you know how he is and what he's like." Katie placed a gentle on my shoulder and gave me her most precious look. It's the look that I like to call my special look. The look she reserves for me and me only. She knows about all the bad boy crushes I've had so she decided to invent this look for whenever I dreamed about Ethan or any other guy and she knew about it. "How about we run to your house now and make giant ice cream sundaes. Your dad still has his secret stash right?"
"Yes Katie. He still has his secret stash"
"Yay!!! I love your dad's ice cream choices." She said while jumping up and down and squealing. She grabbed my hand and started running at full speed towards the house. When ice cream comes into the equation, this girl is total monster.
"Hey guys. Wait up!!! Stop running so fast. It's like you guys are trying to run a marathon or something." "Yeah!! Wait up guys!! Not all of us are spunky girls!!" I stopped short in or tracks when we heard those voices. Ethan and Eddy. What were they doing here? Did they follow us?
"Wha- wha- what are they doing here?" I stuttered and hissed in Katie's ear as the boys continued running towards us and I started to shake from nervousness.
"I may have invited them to come along to your house today" I started balling up my fists and getting my angry look. She saw my change in facial features and her face started turning scared. She threw her hands up and started frantically waving them. "But don't get mad!! Ethan's here too. Maybe you guys can talk. I mean I know you're friends I just don't get why you guys can't have a normal and civil conversation with each other." She gave me a pleading look and I knew with that one look that I would already agree. She already knew this too. She starting getting a smile on her face and jumped up and down while holding onto my arm.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You won't regret this!!" she let go of my arm and started to run over to Eddy. I watched as she ran over and he picked her up and spinned her around. She started giggling as he put her down and gave her a big hug. As I watched this I realized something. Eddy was in love with Katie. I knew that was why he's never kissed a girl before.
But the thing that I noticed the most, that surprised me the most, was when Eddy kissed Katie on the lips and how it turned from an innocent peck to a full on make out session. Eddy, who's never kissed anyone before, just kissed my best friend. My best friend who's never had her first kiss either. Who knew he would be that bold? Who knew that it would happen so soon? And who knew that this one kiss would change everything?
