"Hey, hunny have you seen my laptop bag?" I asked searching the entire bottom floor of the house. Tomorrow was my first day teaching at a new high school. My husband walked into the living room holding up a black rectangular bag. "Am I your knight in shining armour or what?" I let out a large sigh of relief and smiled at him. "I don't know what I'd do without you." I gave him a little kiss on the cheek.
"I don't understand why you're so worried about tomorrow anyway, you're acting as if its your first day as a teacher." He commented, sitting down on the sofa grabbing the remote for the television. I plonked myself down next to him and rested my head on his shoulder. "Well it is in a way, I haven't had a first day as a teacher in five years. I practically ran my last school and now I have to start at the bottom of the food chain again." I sighed to him. I have been working at my last teaching job for five years and was working my way up to being the head of the entire school, but as soon as I married my childhood sweetheart, Todd everything changed.
We first met during a fiery, yet awkward game of spin the bottle in year 10. We were thrown into a room together for our seven minutes in heaven, nothing happened that night except we found out we had a lot in common, we stayed in that room for hours, just talking and talking and talking about our entire lives. We completely fell in love at the ripe old age of 16! We've been together ever since. We got married six months ago and we were forced to move from my dream job, my dream home and my dream city to a brand new school, a larger but much more emptier house and to the city of Doncaster, I've never been here before but so far I wouldn't say I'm too impressed.
I would say I do have a bit of a dark secret as well, ever since I was 15 I have fantasised about anyone and everyone that has caught my eye, it was especially challenging when I started teaching at my last school, there was so many of the male teachers showing me attention, nothing ever happened but oh boy, was I tempted! I love my husband but I never truly felt satisfied with him.
"Hey, when you come home from work tomorrow, you'll have your dinner on the table and we can finally take another test together." Todd smiled at me, placing his hand on my stomach. I gave him a slight smile back and placed my hand on top of his. We had been trying for a baby for the past six months, since we got married. It was all Todds idea, I just sort of went along with it thinking it wouldn't happen anytime soon. Let's just hope this isn't the month it happens, I guess.
"I think I'm going to get an early night, the last thing I need for my first day is to be tired and annoyed at those little brats!" I joked. I started heading up the stairs, knowing my husband wouldn't be following behind me any time soon. I crawled into bed, pulling the sheets up and grabbing my book off the bedside table, opening it to page 103, where I left it last night. This was my happy place, books. I've always found it hard to discover a personality of my own that suits me as I always feel way too invested in the characters lives, I just want my life to be like one of these books. Maybe someday.
