Chapter one- Liz's P.O.V

December 4th - Three days before Elizabeth's birthday

I remember a very vague, distant memory of the night before. I remember my Mother and Father coming to tuck me in and kiss me goodnight, something they haven't done in years.

And I remember seeing tears in my mother's eyes as she held me while I went to sleep.

I didn't really understand it last night, but, now as I sit in a empty castle with only my servants to keep me company, I realize why she was so upset.

Why did they leave? Why not take me? Surely they're coming back for me, I am their only daughter, well only child for that matter.

I sighed and shook the thoughts away and wiped at my wet eyes. I stood up and walked over to my wardrobe, opened it and pulled out a lovely lilac dress.

I pulled it over my shift and adjusted it in my floor length mirror. I sniffed and went to sit at my vanity to await my Governess, who would fix my hair.

I stared in the mirror and looked at my blue eyes that could pierce through diamonds. I then looked down at my long, wavy blonde locks and immediately thought of my mother. I felt tears spring into my eyes and I choked on a sob.

There was a short knock on the thick, redwood door and I sniffled before quietly murmuring a quick, "Come in."

My Governess, Mrs. Freya, came in and shut the door soundly before turning to me. She looked as stressed, if not more, than I did.

She took in my appearance and her features softened.

"Dear child", she said softly, opening her arms, which I rushed into gratefully, "I'm so sorry, Beth."

I cried into her apron and she rubbed my back. This went on for about ten minutes before my sobs died down to sniffles.

I pulled away and she patted my cheeks.

"Come on we've got to get you ready for today."

I sat down and looked at her in the mirror as she picked up a brush.

"What's today?" I asked curiously.

She stopped her movements for a few seconds to meet my gaze, "Today you must find a trustworthy suitor for the kingdom."

I looked down at my hands, upset the kingdom had already moved on from my parents abandonment.

I just nodded and she sighed and began to braid my hair.

Then there was silence.

45 minutes later I'm being led down to the throne room, where I, a mere princess of fifteen, will decide my kingdom's fate.

All that's heard down the long hallway is the sounds of Mrs. Freya and I's breathing and footsteps.

My hands were clammy and I was sweating slightly as we came to stop in front of the tall, oak doors.

I took a deep breath, hearing our Announcer claim my arrival. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, I signaled the doormen to open the doors.

I walked to The Altar, or where the Three Thrones sat, and came to stand in front of my Father's large throne.
